Small business development is my passion and livelihood πŸ’ͺ🏻. I love helping others discover their potential to become their own bosses. πŸ…πŸŽ‰ INTRODUCING YOUR COMMITEE

Academic & Welfare Officer for Engineering: Raya El Laham (2nd year, PhD in Materials)

Hi! Having done my Masters degree at Imperial and having completed the first year of my PhD, I have an understanding of the issues that can affect students, whether in the academic aspects of their college experience, or their wellbeing and mental health. πŸ’›

I am currently the Academic and Welfare Officer for the Faculty of Engineering, and having this role has given me the knowledge and tools to represent the postgraduate community, dealing with issues ranging from modules and coursework, to socials between different faculties and departments and personal/pastoral care πŸ‘₯. Being able to continue with the same role for another year will allow me to overcome the challenges I have faced and build on the ideas and strategies developed, and achieve more in the coming year.

I believe that with my fellow representatives and working more closely with the union, we can ensure that postgraduate students’ academic needs are met, and their concerns are dealt with. I will also focus on the wellbeing and social needs to make their postgraduate experience more comfortable and enjoyable.

I am always happy to chat and look forward to representing you! 🌺

πŸŽ‰πŸ… INTRODUCING YOUR COMMITEE

Academic & Welfare Officer for Natural Sciences: Emma Couves

Hi everyone, this year I took on the role of AWO at somewhat short notice and over the last 6 months tried to support the GSU to improve the day-to-day lives of PGR and PGT at Imperial.

There is still more I would like to do to and so another, this time full year in the role would allow me to see through some of the initiatives started this year. These are;
πŸ’“ Improving the pastoral care system (with the support of the faculty senior tutor) for better access to confidential support for PGR
πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ”¬ Significantly changing the college approach to project students in labs, to improve the enjoyment and reduce stress for all involved in their management
✊🏻 Support the community-building and sharing of good practice across the departments and faculties
🚍 Continue to lobby the faculty for changes campus support, services and transport outside of SK
