Building/constructing sentences.
How can you expect a child to begin to write if they don’t know how to build a sentence? Do you know the strategies to implement to get your child to write? ✍🏾 📖 ✏️
Once they understand how sentence are made, a great way to practice is to use word blocks to construct simple sentences. This was a great activity. In the end, the activity turned into building/constructing to make the tallest tower! 🙃 But it kept them busy.
✍🏾 📕 📚 ✏️
You can elaborate this activity and get the child to copy write the sentence in their book.

And this is what I try hard to Instil in my reception class. The love of reading which starts on the laps of parents.
What do you guys think? Do you think reading is regarded differently in different cultures?
Reading is a great way to increase language and vocabulary. Transitioning from communicative language to academic language. And it is an aspect of learning that has not been given much importance to until recently.
Who is with me? Lets jump on this bandwagon of encouraging and supporting our little monkeys the fun and love of reading.
With lockdown why not have a virtual reading circle with some friends and family.
Share a book. Maybe have a reading time at home; where everyone is reading. This can be a book, magazine, newspaper, food packaging.

I completely believe in this quote. And this is a principal we can translate in all aspects of our life, even when we teach phonics.
It is all a matter of setting small, reasonable and achievable goals.
Spending just 10-15 minutes a day can be so effective.
What are your phonic goals?

Activity number 1.
My nephew and I went for a snow walk around our local area. This is a fantastic activity for all ages from preschool to reception. It was an opportunity to develop language. He was encouraged to generate sentences using adjective and nouns of what he saw, heard and felt. You could expand this activity by coming home and drawing what they saw. And asking the older children to use their phonic knowledge to caption or write sentences. Versatile activity for all ages. Don’t forget to wrap up warm when going for the walk!
