Does Mabel have magic powers? It certainly seems like it.
She gathers all the children who nap, holds their attention while others take them one by one for a nappy change / toilet trip and get them ready for their nap.
Then off she goes to the sleeping room to help our most resistant sleepers drift off peacefully!
It’s remarkable to watch!

The answer: acoustic curtains that block out sound and light and structuring the day so that the oldest class is out on their trip during nap time each day!
Each child gets a dedicated bed, either a grey bed or a blue bed. Grey beds in the sleeping room are for our youngest children. Blue beds are for more seasoned nappers, as children approach 3 years old or who only need a shorter nap.

Fridays are when we have our staff meetings. Each team gets together to discuss the children in the class with Alex and it’s precious time indeed.
The team are constantly reflecting on the needs of the children in each group and designing learning opportunities that engage them.

Our new Thursday routine involves woodwork, gardening and physical development on rotation. Each age group spends the morning immersed in one of these activities.
When we started this, we also wondered whether woodworking would work with our youngest class. But after their first session, it’s not in doubt! The engagement was sky high!

Great to see the children taking the time to prepare their own play.
That preparation is learning too and it makes them more likely to look after the resources when they’ve invested effort into them.

🔈Volume on so you don’t miss the little gems of conversation!
We love showing people around our preschool but we’ve got a few weeks without tours coming up so here’s a little insight into what you’d see on a tour.
Next week we are closed and when we come back we pause tours to ensure all hands on deck to support the new children settling in.
Tours resume on Monday 20th April and run every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 9.15. Get in touch to book onto one of them!
