What does a young child need before they can learn? A person they trust. 💛

Research in child development is clear: young children learn best when they feel emotionally secure. That security comes from warm, consistent relationships with the adults who care for them every day.

At LEYF nurseries, our early years teachers build that bond through play. Sitting alongside a child, noticing what catches their attention and joining in their discovery. When a child trusts their teacher, they feel confident to explore, communicate and try new things. That confidence becomes the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

If you'd like to see this in action, book a visit to your local LEYF nursery via the link below. We'd love to show you around.

✏️ What if the design of a nursery could shape a child's sense of belonging?

That's the question at the heart of Nursery by Design: Creating spaces for learning and belonging, the new book by Dr June O'Sullivan OBE, publishing on 8th July.

Too often, learning environments are treated as a backdrop to practice. Yet the spaces children inhabit every day influence how they see themselves, how they relate to others and how confident they feel to explore, participate and learn.

Drawing on research, reflection and years of experience across the Early Years sector, Nursery by Design explores how thoughtful design can create environments where every child feels valued and included.

Every child is curious in their own way. 🔍

Some children love to play dress up. Others want to build, draw, explore or move constantly from one activity to the next.

In an Early Years setting, it's important that children are encouraged to follow the activities that spark their interest the most.

Because when children are free to follow their curiosity, learning becomes more meaningful. 🧠

We're so proud to share the new garden at Katharine Bruce nursery. 🌳

It might look like just a play space, but it's also doing a lot of developmental work. The leg stumps, rocks and natural surfaces give children the chance to balance, explore and test what they can do with the freedom to move at their own pace.

Children need spaces that challenge them gently. This is ours. 💪❤️

Painting is about so much more than creating pictures. 🎨

As children paint independently, they're learning how to express ideas and develop early language skills through creativity.

Lines and circles become words, as each brush stroke teaches children to express ideas and describe emotions. ❤️

Sensory play is about so much more than keeping children busy.

It’s designed to help children safely explore the world around them through hands-on experiences that feel exciting and engaging.

These moments may look like simple play, but they’re supporting important learning every day. 💛

Whether there’s rain or shine, at LEYF we ensure that outdoor learning isn’t a simple nice-to-have. 🍃

This is because when children get outside, they learn to take risks, solve problems and understand the natural world. Things that four walls simply can’t teach.

Our Green LEYF programme means sustainability is woven into nursery life from day one, because the children who learn to care for the world around them are the ones who will change it. 💚

👨‍🏫 Early Years teachers shape far more than a child's day.

They build confidence, support emotional wellbeing and help to create the foundations children carry with them into school and beyond.

We see it every day: great Early Years education starts with great relationships between teachers, children and families.

As a social enterprise, we're proud to champion the expertise, care and impact of Early Years professionals every day.
