The concept of 'attention' is fundamental to cognitive psychology, referring generally to the selectivity of processing. Historically, William James (1890) defined attention as the taking possession by the mind, in clear and vivid form, of one out of what seem several simultaneously possible objects or trains of thought. Crucially, this implies withdrawal from some things in order to deal effectively with others.
Attention is considered a variety of higher mental processes (cognition). It is the process by which certain information is selected for further processing and other information is discarded, serving to optimize efficiency by preventing sensory overload because the brain does not have the capacity to fully process all incoming information.
Core Dimensions and Types of Attention
Attention is not a monolithic concept but involves diverse phenomena:
Selection Modes (Focus vs. Division):
Focused Attention (or Selective Attention): A situation where individuals try to attend to only one source of information while ignoring other stimuli.
Divided Attention (or Multi-tasking): A situation in which two or more tasks are performed at the same time. This is possible for tasks that are easy or highly practiced, leading to automatic processing.
Control Modes (Source of Guidance): Attention is often conceptualized as a cascade of interacting influences:
Endogenous Orienting (Voluntary or Goal-Directed Attention): Attention guided by the individual's goals, intentions, expectations, or knowledge (top-down processing).
Exogenous Orienting (Involuntary or Stimulus-Driven Attention): Attention automatically shifted by external stimuli (e.g., loud noise, abrupt onset, or stimulus salience) (bottom-up processing).
Physical Manifestation (Overt vs. Covert):Overt Attention (or Overt Orienting): Shifting attention by moving the eyes or head.
Covert Attention (or Covert Orienting): Shifting attention without moving the eyes, often described as seeing something "out of the corner of one's eye".

KELA နဲ့အတူ weekend special အဖြစ် ဒီနေ့လေ့လာသွားမှာကတော့ “leg” နဲ့ဆိုင်တဲ့ idiom သုံးလုံးဖြစ်ပါတယ်။
ပြီးတော့ weekend တွေမှာ မတူညီတဲ့ ပုံစံတွေနဲ့ စာလေးတွေရေးပေးသွားမှာမို့ KELA page လေးကို like and follow လုပ်ဖို့ မမေ့ပါနဲ့နော်။
1. Break a leg – a phrase commonly used to wish somebody good luck, especially to an actor before they go on a stage
