At Millie’s House Woodlands Avenue, some friendly reptiles came to visit! A giant tortoise named Mr. Poppy roamed the rooms of Inventors and Preschool. We also had a close encounter with interesting snakes that the children bravely touched and petted. We got to see a giant bullfrog, and some interesting lizards with special characteristics like sticking on walls and leaving their tails behind when scared! It was a day full of new knowledge and interesting facts about the world around us. The children were able to use their kind hands and asked interesting questions to the handler showcasing their growing critical thinking skills and curiosity. Well done children!

At Millies House Westminster we celebrated the wonderful 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough. Our children listened intently to a story about David Attenborough and engaged in meaningful discussions about pollution and caring for our environment. As a nursery that is continuously evolving to become more sustainable, the children demonstrated a wonderful understanding of these important messages.
To extend their learning, we filled a water tray with sea animals and litter, where the children actively took part in cleaning the ocean and learning about protecting marine life. During the activity, one child shared that their Daddy had written their name in the sand when they visited the ocean. Following the children’s interests, we recreated this experience, encouraging mark-making, communication, and imaginative play through a meaningful and engaging activity.

At Millies House Westminster our children have been enjoying learning about ladybirds so much that we extended their knowledge and understanding through Expressive Arts and Design. The children were provided with acrylic paint palettes, river stones, and fine brushes to carefully create their own ladybird designs. This creative activity encouraged the children to explore colour, shape, and pattern while developing their fine motor skills, concentration, and creativity.

Last Saturday at Millie’s House Woodlands Avenue, the teachers had a very informative day, refreshing their knowledge during the Fire Warden Training Course. They learned about the Fire Triangle, which Fire Extinguishers to use, different types of fire, and why it is important to have fire drills and test the fire alarms frequently. They also had hands-on experience on using different types of fire extinguishers so they can familiarise themselves on how to use it, remembering the acronym: PASS (Pull the pin, aim, squeeze, and sweep). It was definitely a very interesting and knowledgeable day for all.

At Millies House Westminster we've had some very exciting arrivals this week — our ladybirds have officially hatched! 🥰 The children were fascinated watching the transformation and loved observing the tiny ladybirds up close before carefully releasing them into the garden. 🌿
This wonderful activity helped us learn about life cycles, nature, and caring for living things while having lots of mini beast fun along the way! ❤️

On Saturday, the team from Millie’s House Woodlands Avenue had lots of fun at the Big London Bake. We split off into teams for a little healthy competition. Each pair were given a set of instructions to follow and free range to create and design an Easter themed cake.
This was such a fun experience for us all with lots of laughter and healthy competition. It truly brought us all closer as a team. A huge congratulations to Nina and Maddy for winning star baker.
We will definitely be back!

At Millie’s house Woodlands Avenue, we have been getting sporty with our brand new sports classes ‘sporty Millie’s ‘ every Tuesday hosted by coach Luke.
While participating in the classes the children were able to work on their gross and fine motor skills through a range of different sports and warm ups.
During our football classes the children practiced their dribbling keeping control of the ball at their feet before learning how to pass the ball with the side of their foot then learning how to shoot and score a goal. ⚽️
In our tennis lessons the children were able to build on their hand-eye coordination as they practiced balancing, bouncing and hitting the tennis balls with their rackets. 🎾
In the rugby sessions the children have worked on their throwing, catching and do***ng skills as they learn to throw the ball backward before running past the other children and teachers to score a try. 🏈
At the basket ball classes the children practiced their bouncing and dribbling around the garden before learning how to chess pass and shoot into the hoops using both hands.🏀

We are so excited to introduce a very special new friend here at Millies House Westminster… meet Hearty the Axolotl!
Hearty will be going home each evening with one of our children to enjoy lots of wonderful adventures. Families are invited to capture these special moments by adding photos and a short diary entry to share back with the nursery. We can’t wait to see all the exciting experiences Hearty will be part of!
This lovely activity supports our children’s learning in so many ways:
Communication & Language – talking about their adventures and sharing experiences with friends.
Literacy – mark-making, early writing, and storytelling through the diary
Personal, Social & Emotional Development – building confidence, responsibility, and a sense of belonging
Understanding the World – learning about caring for others and exploring new environments
Fun facts about axolotls:
Axolotls live in water and are native to Mexico City (until recently as one was found in Wales)
They are sometimes called the “smiling salamander” because of their cute faces
💫 Axolotls are amazing—they can regrow parts of their body, like legs and even parts of their heart!
Unlike most amphibians, they stay in their larval form their whole life
So far he has been on a tube train, a bus, the park and even the farm!
We are looking forward to seeing where Hearty’s adventures will take him next… keep an eye on our page for updates!

At Millies House Westminster we have an exciting new project!! Our children, love nature so much so we are proud and excited to have our ladybug hatching kit!
Children will observe how ladybug larvae move and change over time. We will talk about life cycles (egg → larvae → pupa → adult). Introducing new vocabulary: larvae, insect, wings, spots, grow, change. Encourage children to describe what they see and ask questions. Draw or paint ladybugs at different life stages. Use playdough to create larvae and insects. Paint river rocks for tough tray activities. Sing insect-themed songs. Explore habitats and what ladybugs need to survive (leaves, aphids, fresh air). Did you know they eat Raisins!

At Millie’s House Woodlands Avenue, we celebrated all the amazing mums in the nursery on their special day! Each rooms prepared awesome activities to show our love to our dearest mummies. The Explorers did an activity wherein they planted some sunflower seeds on tiny pots, and even watered it themselves. They also made Mother’s Day cards by doing some mark making on paper with paint and foil. The Discoverers had a fantastic messy play with red and white paint, they also had flower pot activity for their mums, and did canvas hand-painting to take home. The Inventors made flower wreaths and drew portraits of their lovely mummies! They also made the Mother’s Day mingle banner for the party! The preschoolers had an awesome time making clay hearts with rosemary leaf, in addition, they made cards for their mummies and showed their developing tracing skills as they try to write on the cards themselves. It was truly a lovely time as we also had our Mother’s Day mingle in the garden to celebrate the occasion.
