We are happy and proud to share the news that the new 5th edition of Kielhofner’s Conceptual Foundations of Occupational Therapy Practice has been released, featuring a dedicated two chapter on Ayres Sensory Integration, authored by Zoe Mailloux, Susanne Smith Roley, and Judith Abelenda.
The cover highlights the practical application of a multi-model approach across current and emerging practice settings, serving diverse populations and we are especially proud to see Zoe representing Ayres Sensory Integration in this visual narrative.
Importantly, this publication also honors the legacy of Dr. Gary Kielhofner, who explicitly identified Dr. A. Jean Ayres as a major exception in occupational therapy recognizing her as a practitioner who continued hands on clinical work while simultaneously developing theory and conducting rigorous research.

The 6th International Sensory Integration Congress (ISIC 2026), held in the beautiful city of Porto, Portugal 🇵🇹, brought together passionate clinicians, researchers, educators, and students from around the world for three days of cutting-edge science, shared practice, and meaningful connection all focused on making a real difference in the lives of our clients and their families.

Presentations at the historic Alfândega do Porto Congress Centre explored early intervention in sensory integration, comprehensive assessment approaches, and practical clinical skills such as evidence-based reporting.

Attendees engaged in both oral presentations and research talks, covering topics that ranged from everyday clinical practice to the latest developments in ASI research.

International voices enriched the program, with presentations from experts including Roseann Schaaf, Susanne Smith-Roley, Zoe Mailloux, Isabelle Beaudry, Wolf Mehling, Teresa Tavassoli, Bar-Shalita, Anita Bundy, Shelly Lane, Elysa Marco, and many others✨.

From evidence-based practice to innovative clinical approaches, ISIC 2026 was a true celebration of collaboration, curiosity, and community.

On behalf of the International Council for Education in Ayres Sensory Integration (ICE-ASI), we extend our heartfelt congratulations and thanks 🙏 to the 7Senses - Integração Sensorial team, under the leadership of Paulo Fernandes, as well as to the Scientific Committee, led by Dr. Sergio Tejeda, and to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this ISIC International Sensory Integration Congress.

This congress, as always, stands as an homage to Dr. A. Jean Ayres, brilliant scientist and compassionate occupational therapy clinician—whose legacy continues to guide us 💫. As highlighted at ISIC 2026, a legacy is not something you inherit… it is something you choose to carry.

We look forward to the next gatherings: online ISIC 2027 💻 and ISIC 2028 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK 🇬🇧.
