Summer, wrapped up. 🌞

Looking back at these past few months β€” sandy feet, sticky ice cream fingers, late nights that turned into lazy mornings, and more little adventures than I can count. It's been full. Busy in the best way, and yes, some days were a beautiful mess of trying to hold it all together.

That balancing act? It's exactly what this work is built on.

Connection. Family. Support. Balance. Not just words I use to describe what we do at the cookery school β€” they're how I try to live, too. Juggling my own two, running two businesses, and getting to spend my days helping other families find that same joy around food.
I don't take it for granted. Getting to do what I love, with the families who trust us β€” new ones joining this year, and the ones who've been with us for a while already β€” genuinely fills my cup.

Here's to a new year of sessions, connection, and more good food ahead. Can't wait to see you all again. 🧑

Week one of our new pilot with GLL is done β€” and it's given me a lot to smile about.

Like any first week in a new setting, there were a few teething issues. New faces, new routines, a bit of logistics to iron out. That's exactly what a pilot is for, and it's already smoothing out nicely.

But then a parent shared this with me, and it's stuck with me all week:
"Getting hands on, especially important for my eldest who has ARFID so won't taste food but still wants to learn about it."

This is exactly why accessibility isn't an add-on in our sessions β€” it's the whole point. A family cooking session should work whether a child tastes everything, tastes nothing, or just wants to touch, explore and be part of it without any pressure.

Teething issues, sorted. Purpose, reminded. Onwards to week two.

Morning-me really helped evening-me out today πŸ™Œ

I had a little more energy at breakfast time, so I spent five minutes blitzing some vegetables and getting this hidden-veg bolognese cooking before we headed out.

After another full school holiday day of fun, we came home tired and hungry β€” but all I had to do was reheat the sauce, cook the pasta, grate over some cheese and serve. Dinner was on the table in around 10 minutes 🍝

Easy hidden-veg bolognese

I blitzed together:

1 onion
2 carrots
1 red pepper
4–5 mushrooms
2 big handfuls of spinach

Then I:

Cooked the vegetables in a little oil for around 5 minutes.
Added 750g lean beef mince and cooked until browned.
Stirred in 2 tins of chopped tomatoes, 2 tablespoons of tomato purΓ©e, garlic granules, mixed herbs, salt and pepper.
Left it to simmer for around 20 minutes.

Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 30 minutes
Reheat and serve: 10 minutes

Use whichever vegetables you already have, make a big batch and freeze some for another tired day.

It doesn’t have to be complicated to be nourishing. Sometimes the biggest win is simply making dinner easier for your future self πŸ’š

Save this for the next long school-holiday day and follow for more easy, affordable and realistic family recipes.

Cool and refrigerate promptly, then reheat until piping hot throughout.
