We read a junior vacancy at an international arbitration practice. The responsibilities were predictable. The expectations were the interesting part.

The work: cross-border disputes under SIAC, LCIA and SCC rules, procedural documents for foreign jurisdictions, legal memoranda on applicable law, and daily collaboration inside international teams.

The expectations: English at C1 as a baseline rather than an advantage. Understanding of international dispute resolution as a requirement. International education or training as a strong asset.

This is not one vacancy — it’s a signal. A purely domestic legal education is no longer sufficient for entering international legal practice, and what differentiates candidates now is an international qualification, real academic or professional experience in English, and a practical understanding of cross-border disputes.
