Happy Mother’s Day to all of the wonderful women I have met over the years whilst training them in First Aid. From those with bumps, to newer mums, more experienced mums, mums that have given the gift of love to those they have welcomed to make a family through fostering or adoption, and to those who have been longing to be a mother ❤️‍🩹

To the special aunties and godmothers, the Grandmas / Nanny’s/Grannies/Glamma’s!!

We want to wish you a warm glow today to know you are loved and cherished by those surrounding you.

For some today may be filled with a heavy heart, for others full of joy.
However you feel today, take care of yourself and enjoy those you have to love around you.

With 💚 Lell x

Impetigo - the most common children's skin infection 25/01/2024

Here is a post about the dreaded impetigo, which is a really common childhood skin irritation. Unfortunately it’s contagious. So read our tips on how to manage the infection and minimise passing it on to others 💚

Measles is a highly contagious disease spread by coughs and sneezes, and it’s sadly on the rise in the UK with more than 200 confirmed cases in the West Midlands in recent months, mostly in Birmingham.

Having the MMR vaccine is the best way to prevent measles but NHS figures show that in 2022-23, the number of children receiving two MMR doses by the time they were five years old, was at the lowest level since 2010-11.

Swipe through to find out a bit more about measles and speak to your GP if you are unsure if your child is vaccinated or if you have MMR vaccine concerns 💚

Our tonsils play a key role in our immune system. They help filter out germs that enter through your nose or mouth to protect the rest of your body from infection.

Tonsillitis can be brought on by bacteria or viruses. When a virus affects the tonsils and causes inflammation, it can make your child feel pretty grotty.

It’s important to know whether your child’s sore throat is caused by a virus or bacteria as this can determine the treatment path, so please see your GP if you are worried.

You can read more about tonsillitis on our blog this week:

A thank you for 2023. Here’s to the New Year and what opportunities may arise in 2024!

I’ve switched off my social media over Christmas and New Year to be more present for my young children and it’s been great and well needed.

But I am back at work this week. Having some time off has been wonderful and helped clear some of the brain fog that the end of a busy year brings.

Thank you to everyone that has been a part of the 2023 journey. Here’s to a prosperous year ahead for us all, with lots of growth, success and great memories along the way.

Lell 💚 x

I would like to wish you a very happy Christmas from my family to yours.

May your festive celebrations be blessed with love and warm company. It’s not what’s under the Christmas tree, but the people we have around it 💚

Have a truly special time and remember to be in those special moments.

Merry Christmas all, Lell x

It seems to have reared its ugly heat in our nursery setting, so a great opportunity to talk about Conjunctivitis 👁️

Conjunctivitis is common in children under 5 years old. It’s usually caused by infection or allergies and it can be contagious so it can easily spread around nurseries and school settings.

Swipe through the slides to take a look at some of the more common symptoms and advice on how to treat conjunctivitis.

Most instances of conjunctivitis will clear up without the need for medicine within a few weeks, but please see your GP if symptoms persist. If it’s a bacterial infection, you might be prescribed antibiotics. But these will not work if it’s caused by a virus (viral conjunctivitis) or an allergy.

Is this something your little one has had or is suffering with at the moment?

5 people die with sepsis every hour in the UK. It primarily affects very young children and older adults. It takes the lives of more people than breast, bowel and prostate cancer combined.

Early diagnosis is essential to being able to effectively treat sepsis so if you have any concerns about your child, always ask your doctor or at A&E: could it be sepsis?

Symptoms are similar to other conditions so it isn’t always easy to spot or diagnose - familiarise yourself with the list of symptoms, trust your instincts and keep asking the question.

You can find out lots more about sepsis on this week’s episode of The Family Health Podcast which is a heartbreaking chat with Melissa Mead whose baby son William died from sepsis just after his first birthday. This conversation will really help you picture the symptoms and know what to do if you find yourself in this situation.

Strep A - a simple guide 10/12/2023

Strep A

This time last year the UK was experiencing unusually high rates of Strep A, and with children dying from the infection, it was a really frightening time. Whilst there is nothing to suggest Strep A is any more prominent than usual this year, at Mini First Aid we think it is always best to be aware of any signs and symptoms of nasty illnesses. We thought this blog would be a useful reminder of what to look our for, and once again we are sharing a real life story of one mum's expereince with Strep A.

With temperatures dropping in the UK recently and scenes of people stuck in cars in Cumbria this weekend, here is some info about hypothermia including some guidance on what NOT to do which might surprise you!

If you have to travel by car this winter season, think about what you would do if the worst happened and you broke down or were stuck in bad weather. What emergency supplies could you have in your car to keep you and your family safe?

We don't travel anywhere without our Family First Aid Kit in the car, which contains two foil blankets which can be used to retain heat. We hope you will never have to use them, but if you are stuck on the side of a motorway you will be very grateful they are there 💚

Stay safe and why not share your recommendations for emergency car supplies in the comments to help other families 👇

Don’t forget the clocks ticking to get those letters over to Santa 🎅🏼

At the end of October, our family and friends came together for a sponsored Race Night for a charity that’s close to our hearts, the Childrens Burns Trust

We arranged a virtual horse racing night and what a success it was. My husband (said ‘Jocky’ in the photo) called in the help of his friends at the Masonic Centre Welling (8046) who helped put together this evening of family fun.

We were thrilled to have raised a total of £1314 for the charity, as well as managing to give out some profitable wins on the races and bingo.

Such amazing feedback from attendees, as well as having the chance to spread the word of this incredible charity and the fact that they receive no government funding at all! So the support is crucial for the families that have been helped by this small, but mighty charity.

The fundraising goes towards helping to provide counselling, weekends away and continued support through the trauma, recovery and thereafter, to both the burn survivor and their nearest and dearest.

We will continue to fundraise and raise awareness throughout the coming year 💙🧡

Please follow and donate if you can 💚

With thanks and love, Lell, Steve and family from

We fully support this amazing charity and the work they do to help burn survivors.
They receive NO government funding. Supporting the smaller, lesser known charities means so much and makes a huge difference.

We had a fantastic night 💚💙🧡

Where do we start with what is wrong with the image in this post?!

Just having the right car seat and fitting this correctly in your car is not where car seat safety stops. It’s vital that your child is strapped properly in the seat to ensure safety.

Winter is approaching and we know how easy and time-saving it is to simply pop your child into their car seat while tucked up snugly in their winter coat or snowsuit but this can greatly affect the effectiveness of your child’s harness.

Please take a few minutes to read the information here. And please share with all your parent friends 💚

These colourful treats are very appealing to our children and although they may seem harmless, they are actually a serious choking hazard! ⚠️

The hard, round sweet can come off the stick and block a child’s airway. This happens silently and if you’re not watching you might not even notice.

When you’re stocking up on treats this Halloween, please remember that it's not just lollipops that can be dangerous for little ones. Other hard candy, marshmallows and mini eggs in particular can pose a serious choking risk. So please pick another treat and scare safely this Halloween!

If you are concerned you would not know what to do in a choking incident, sign up to one of our Mini First Aid classes today!

If you suspect your child has swallowed a poison they may experience:
• Nausea & vomiting
• Pain or a burning sensation
• Cramping stomach pains
• Seizures
• A reduced level of response

Ask the child to spit out anything that is in their mouth & carefully remove contaminated clothing (cut off rather than pull over head.)

Call 999/112 for emergency help and give as much information as possible about the poison. Try and establish what your baby or child has taken, when they took it and how much they took.

Give sips of cold water to soothe any burnt lips.

DO NOT try to make them vomit - when a corrosive substance has been swallowed, it can result in further chemical burns as the poison moves back up from the stomach. It can also cause further damage to the throat and could block their airway. If your child is sick however, keep a sample of the vomit for hospital analysis.

If your child becomes unconscious - open the AIRWAY and check for BREATHING. Be prepared to give CPR. If your child IS breathing, place them into the recovery position until help arrives.

Personal post just to wish my amazing hubby a very happy 7th wedding anniversary today.

Steve, you’ve always been my biggest cheerleader and supporter, even in some of the more daft decisions and hobbies I’ve embarked on.

13yrs together making memories that will last a lifetime and our 2 beautiful little boys that moved us from a couple to a family 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦

I love you Mr H. Here’s to many more years of love and laughter # # #

Fraser and I met up for a coffee with Jo from today as we are borrowing some banners for a horse racing night my hubby and I are arranging in support of this fantastic charity.

Jo manages Childrens Burns Trust which is a small charity that does hugely important work in supporting burn survivors and their families whilst in recovery and beyond to offer amazing help, care and a community 🧡💙

It is a real honour to be able to help raise awareness (and hopefully LOTS of money) to such a worthwhile cause which is close to our hearts.

30 children a day are seen in hospitals across the UK from hot water injuries. Please be careful and think before putting that cup of tea or coffee down within reach of a child (of any age!)

We are just a few weeks into the new school year and we suspect many of your children will already have picked up a cold - are we right?

Colds are caused by viruses such as rhinovirus and they spread easily through the air by germs from coughs and sneezes, or indirectly through contact with objects that germs have landed on, followed by transfer to the mouth or nose - which is why colds spread easily in childcare settings as children explore and touch everything!

Colds usually clear up within a few weeks. Symptoms can appear quite similar to flu with a few key differences.

🤒 A cold will appear gradually whereas flu can come on quickly.
🤒 A cold affects mainly the nose and throat whereas flu can affect more than just the nose and throat.
🤒 A cold makes your child feel unwell but okay enough to go to school, whereas the flu makes a person too unwell to carry on as normal.

It's fine to send your child to school or nursery with a common cold if they are otherwise well and do not have a high temperature. But if they have a temp, diarrhoea and/or vomiting, they should stay home for at least 48 hours after the last episode.

Who is struggling with a poorly child with a cold right now?

I had so much fun, meeting up with the girlies today. They all had a refresher in First Aid with our 2hr awareness class.

It’s important that all children’s providers and class hosts know basic first aid, should an accident or emergency ever occur.

If you go to any of the Diddi Dance classes in South East London, you are in safe hands 💙

Thank you for organising. It was a pleasure meeting up with and

Looking forward to seeing your TicTok CPR 💚

Did you know that yesterday was the first official day of Autumn! 🍁🍂🍃

The change in seasons brings colder weather, less daylight and the trees shedding their leaves and changing all sorts of beautiful colours. It’s our favourite time of year!

It's also the time of year that our classes get very busy, and if you want to stay in the warm, then we can bring our two hour private baby and child first aid classes to you at home. 🏠

Yes, you can learn first aid in the comfort of your own home, surrounded by family and friends. Get in touch for more details:

Just a refresher as we are experiencing hot weather for the next few days the difference between Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke.

To help prevent either condition, try and follow the tips below:

💧 Keep an eye on the very young and elderly that they are drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day.

☀️ Stay out of direct sunshine between 11am and 3pm, when it’s at its peak.

🧢 Wear hats whilst out in the sunshine.

🐶 🐱 Pets should also avoid being exposed to the sun / heat. Walk your dogs early or in the evening when it’s cooler.

🧴 And always use sunscreen on the whole family!

Tots Play is such a fun learning environment for babies and preschoolers. It’s a great way to meet other parents too, or go together with your antenatal friends.

⭐️ Meet the Team ⭐️

Hi, I'm Beth and I’ve been part of the Tots Play Team for 2 years! 🐵

I'm a mum to 2 beautiful girls who are 10 and 3 years old and have worked within childcare since I was 17! I knew I wanted a new challenge after having my youngest daughter in the crazy year of 2020.

I joined Tots Play classes with my youngest in September 2020 and we loved them. I have made life long mummy friends as well as learning many different activities to complete at home!

With my history in childcare and thurst for a new challenge I knew joining the Tots Play Bexley Team was the right decision for me and my family. Giving me more time to watch my girls grow while also supporting your little ones to do the same.

I've loved meeting lots of you over the last 2 years and looking forward to meeting lots more new families at classes in September.

I’ll be leading the Bexley Village classes on a Wednesday at St John’s and on Thursday at St Andrews, in Bexleyheath.

See you soon
Beth 🐵 x
