In the last week of term the preschool children were busy preparing to celebrate Chinese New Year – the Year of the Horse! 🐎🏮

They had so much fun making beautiful red Chinese lanterns, learning about traditions, and exploring the meaning behind this special celebration. Through creative activities like this, our little learners are discovering and appreciating cultures from around the world.

Wishing all of our families who celebrate a very Happy Chinese New Year! May the Year of the Horse bring you happiness, good health, and success.

Talking about days of the week and Time!

The children talked about what happens on different days and practising saying the days in the correct order.

To support our learning, we made our own Days of the Week sequencing game using lolly sticks. The children worked hard to arrange the sticks in the right order, helping them to understand sequencing and develop their early reading skills.

This activity also encouraged turn-taking, problem-solving and lots of discussion about our weekly routines. Well done everyone — fantastic learning!

To support our learning about time, we introduced the nursery rhyme “Hickory Dickory Dock.” The children have really enjoyed singing along, joining in with the repeated phrases, and talking about the clock and the numbers.

As part of our activity, the children practised their cutting skills by carefully cutting out pictures and sticking them in the correct places to create their own Hickory Dickory Dock scenes. ✂️ This was a great way to develop fine motor skills, hand–eye coordination, and concentration.

We are so proud of their effort and creativity — well done everyone! 🌟

The moon and stars was on the agenda as part of our space topic. The children created moon pictures by painting with white paint and foil—creating a beautiful, cratered moon picture while building their fine motor skills and creativity.

We enjoyed talking about some of the pictures the stars make in the sky, the children used their imaginations to spot some patterns they see, they then combined creativity and learning as they used chalk to count and design, then a plastic needle and wool to make their very own star constellation. A fun way to build early maths, fine motor skills, and imagination!

And help us with our star gazing and searching for those far away planets we made our own telescopes, just in case we their was no rockets available to take us into space.

The children have been busy exploring outer space this term!
While learning about the planets and their sequence in our solar system, the children practised their scissor control by carefully cutting and arranging their planets in order.

This hands-on activity supported early science learning, fine motor development, and concentration—all while encouraging creativity and confidence. We love seeing learning come to life through fun, purposeful play! 🌍

They have also been using the planets to explore colours, by using balloons and bright paint, the children created beautiful circle art that looks just like planets floating in space 🌍🪐

This activity was a wonderful way to practice fine motor skills, colour mixing, and imagination—while having lots of messy fun!

This term our topic will be Space, our planet and Winter, with a different focus each week.

This week we have had great fun exploring and talking about day and night.

The children enjoyed taking part in a night sky sensory activity which uses fine motor skills and encourages mark-making.
The activity supports:

• Sensory exploration (texture of rice, light and dark contrast)
• Fine motor skills (scooping, brushing, drawing lines)
• Creativity and imagination (space, night sky, stars)
• Early mark-making and pattern creation
• Calm, focused engagement

🍁 Exploring Autumn! 🍂

This week, our preschoolers will be diving into the wonders of autumn! The children were so excited to bring in their nature hunt bags filled with treasures they discovered outdoors — colorful leaves, acorns, pinecones, conkers, and even a few tiny twigs and feathers.

Together, we explored these autumn finds, talking about their colours, textures, and how nature changes during this beautiful season.

It’s been lovely watching the children use their senses to observe, sort, and create with their collections — sparking curiosity, language, and creativity along the way.

Autumn is truly a magical time for learning through play! 🍂🌰🍁

The children have been talking about looking after their bodies and keeping healthy.
We were extremely lucky to have a very special visit from a local Dentist and past Holy innocents parent - Dr Ogretme from DenCare Clinic in Locksbottom, who came into preschool and talked to children about how important it is to look after their teeth and when and how we should brush them to keep them healthy. The children got to practice on Danny the Dragon.

The children enjoyed talking about where they live and our homes, we explored the story of the three little pigs and talked about the different type of homes they lived in.
The interactive tuff tray allowed the children to see, feel and build as they listened along with the story of the Three Little Pigs. They talked about the materials that was used and why they thought one was stronger than the others.

What a wonderful start to the new preschool year, with the first half of the Autimn term coming to an end, we have seen children settle back beautifully into their routines, making new friends and reconnecting with familiar faces. Our first half term’s topic, “All About Me,” has been such a fun and meaningful way to begin.

We’ve spent time talking about what makes each of us special — our families, our favorite things, and what we like to do. The children have enjoyed creating self-portraits, measuring how tall they are, and sharing their fabulous story books from home.

Through stories, songs, and play, we’ve celebrated the uniqueness of everyone in our preschool community. It’s been amazing to see the children’s confidence grow as they learn more about themselves and their friends.
