5 normal things your baby or toddler might be doing🤍

1. Newborn having multiple cat naps, or only wanting to sleep on you
2. Your toddler still waking at night for comfort
3. Your baby having a slower start to weaning
4. Your baby or toddler having parental preference at bedtime
5. Your baby or toddler needing a sleep association to help them settle

All totally normal☺️ don’t feel pressured to make unnecessary changes. Your sleep situation is yours and things are only a problem if they are a problem for you❤️

Support is of course always out there if you need🤗🤗🤗

Let’s talk self settling 👶🏻💤

Self settling can play a vital role in improving your little one’s sleep. Sometimes when they have a sleep association that’s very strong, it can get in the way of them being able to connect their sleep cycles. If you feel like your baby or toddler is waking frequently during naps or overnight, and needing a lot of support to settle - then it might be time to practice some independent sleep.

I’ve written a brief outline of what each method entails, but if you need some personalised support - then please get in touch. I would love to help you❤️

Bedtime milk feed : before or after their bath🛁👶🏻

So a lot of routines you see online (mine included) will place the bedtime feed after the bath, but that doesn’t mean it’s correct or the only option. For lots of babies their bedtime feed being before their bath works better for them - and that’s ok!

Babies sleep is so personal, and doesn’t need to follow a one size fits all routine. Sometimes it’s trial and error while you figure out what suits you and your little one🫶🏻💕

What to expect with a newborn? 👶🏻💤🍼

Sleep : unpredictable and they sleep a lot! Either long 2 hour naps, or shorter cat naps - both are normal!
Feeding : newborns feed a lot - every 1.5-3 hours day and night is normal. Don’t worry, these stretches get bigger and they get older!
Behaviour : newborns cry a lot, especially around week 3-6. It’s their only way of communicating, and as long as you aren’t worried about any other things - it’s normal. Playtime will be short because they get tried quickly☺️

Enjoy all the cuddles with your newborn - you can’t spoil a baby❤️

Baby first aid kit⛑️🩹

It’s so important to have a well-stocked first aid kit, you never know when you might need it! Keep a mini version of this in your car at all times.

Make sure the first aid kit is in a locked container, and well away from curious little hands🤗🙏🏻

Let’s talk potty training 🚽 💩

Potty training can be quite a daunting experience for a lot of families, but hopefully my tips help make it a bit easier.

My main tip is not to rush your little one, really wait until you see signs of readiness. This can be as early as 15 months, or closer to 3 years old. Every toddler is so different!

Accidents WILL happen - that’s just part of your little one learning. Don’t worry about them, just tidy up and move on🤗

Keep your toddler in nappies for naps and nighttime sleep, no rush to ditch their nappies altogether!

Let me know if you have any questions🤗👇🏻

What to expect when your little one starts a new childcare setting?👶🏻💕

A few areas might be disrupted, the main ones being sleep, eating and their behaviour. Thankfully these disruptions are usually temporary while they adjust to their new environment.

Don’t panic if you need to offer extra support/reassurance around sleep. This won’t create bad long terms habits, and you can always get them back on track once they are more settled🙏🏻

How many day naps does your little one need?💤👶🏻

0-3 months : 3-6 naps
3-6 months : 2-4 naps
6-9 months : 2-3 naps
9-18 months : 1-2 naps
18 months+ : 0-1 nap

Hopefully this is a helpful post you can go back to whenever you need it❤️ babies sleep needs change all the time, so it’s important to keep up with their routine and make tweaks whenever you need too🤗

First off, let me start with saying that this is just a guide! Your baby might drink more or less milk, and that works for them - that’s great😊

Signs your baby is having enough milk :

- They are growing and putting on weight as expected
- Good nappy output
- Happy and content in between feeding sessions

The reason I haven’t included breastfeeding times is because breastfeeding journeys can really vary family to family. Feeding on demand, especially in the first few weeks/months, is usually what works best for mums and babies😊
