With the Lunar New Year just days away, it is time to soak in the festive mood! As a student planning to study in the UK, you might be worried about the lack of Asian food in your city.

You'll be pleased to know that Asian food is never too far away. There are 5 official Chinatowns (characterised by their iconic arches) across the UK - Birmingham, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Newcastle - providing a plethora of Asian food and grocery options. The oldest Chinatown in the UK (and Europe) is in Liverpool, dating back to the 1860s. Even in cities with no official Chinatowns, there are Chinese enclaves where Asian restaurants and supermarkets can be easily found. So fret not, some Asian food here might even be better than those at home!

1. Halls of Residence (typically on campus)
• Popular amongst 1st year students, they are a fuss-free option where meals are usually catered for and lectures are in close proximity
• 24/7 support is often available through a Hall Warden and is one of the safer housing options

2. Privately-owned apartments / houses
• Suits students who would like to move in with their friends and because of the options available, may the most cost efficient option
• Requires initiative in looking for a suitable property (on sites such as Zoopla and Rightmove) and timely payment of bills

• Privately-owned or university managed, this option is suitable for those who wish to continue to be in a youthful community off-campus
