🌟It’s so important to foster a love for reading! So, not just practising word recognition or comprehension… It needs to be genuinely fun sometimes too!

We include reading in every lesson to help strengthen those skills but also try to introduce these little ones to texts they’ll love- magazines, catalogues or comics do wonders!

📚 Help develop confidence, vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar by introducing a comfy reading space or sharing some of your favourites with your little one.

📖 What was your favourite book when you were in school?

Inference is a skill we constantly get asked about- probably the hardest part of comprehension for all children!🧐

✨It’s important to help children learn how to interpret a story and what it means in context rather than just reading the words and not following what’s happening.

E.g.: The thunder boomed! My dog hid under the bed and was shaking like a leaf.

Inference question: Why did the dog hide?

Answer: I know that the thunder is loud and scary. The text says the dog was shaking/hiding. I can infer that the dog is scared and is looking for safety/protection.

We make sure to go the extra mile for our little ones, so they get the simplest, most effective strategies for each mini hurdle throughout their learning journey.

To do this, we’ve got to stay up to date and continue learning, ourselves! We’re always thinking of new ways to get them to thrive, challenge and maximise their potential.

It’s incredibly important to let children’s confidence grow by equipping them so that they can challenge themselves independently and not feel afraid to do so!

Ways to support this:

📚 Provide strategies/resources to aid independence e.g. Sound mats for spelling or an essay structure they can apply their ideas to.

⏰ Give them time!! When you're learning something new, you will take a while to think through the whole process. Let them!

👍🏻 They may feel a little anxious when first trying to be independent so praise as reassurance goes a long way at the start!

I know a lot of children have been eagerly awaiting this announcement… We’ve finally taken a look at all of the contest entries and have a well-deserved winner. 👀

Firstly, this was a super difficult decision because there were so many fantastic writers, bakers and artists! 👩🏾‍🍳 and we are immensely proud of all the children that took part. 💙

Going the extra mile is imperative to Fly High Tutors, and that’s why we have feedback sessions with our parents after every single lesson.

Keeping the parents in the loop with what they’re doing well and what they need to improve on helps instil a great atmosphere in the classroom.
