Day 13 of Shona Month ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผโค๏ธ

You don't have to understand every word to feel the power of these voices.

There is something special about hearing Shona sung with pride, the rhythm, the harmony, the emotion, and the stories carried in every line.

Language is more than a way to communicate. It carries our history, our identity, our memories, and our connection to one another.

Today, we celebrate the beauty of Shona not just as a language, but as a sound, a feeling, and a living part of who we are.

Close your eyes, listen, and let the voices speak for themselves. โœจ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ

One Word: Sadza. Instant Connection. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ"

Sadza is the same word which helped Chunks and Niko defeat us on Guess the language on YouTube.

However, back to Love island...To many people, this was just a funny conversation about whether she has the arms and strength to cook sadza. ๐Ÿ˜…

But there was so much more in that exchange.

They spoke about where they come from with pride, his mum is from Kwekwe, she is from Harare and suddenly the conversation felt familiar. The mention of sadza and muriwo, the jokes, the shared understanding... it was like watching an inside joke unfold in real time.

The deeper meaning may have been lost on many, but for those who understood the culture, it felt like home.

Whether you watch Love Island or not, there's something beautiful about seeing people connect through their roots, their food, and the places that shaped them.

Sometimes all it takes is "Where are you from?" and "Can you cook sadza?" ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผโœจ

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ Meet Mr Patrick, our Shona Language Tutor! ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ

This month, we're celebrating the beauty of the Shona language and the rich culture, history, and traditions that come with it.

Did you know? ๐Ÿ‘€

Shona is the most widely spoken language in Zimbabwe, spoken by millions of people both in Zimbabwe and across the diaspora. It belongs to the Bantu language family and shares similarities with several Southern African languages, including Shangani (Xitsonga), Ndebele, Venda, and Sotho languages. If you already speak one of these languages, you may recognise familiar sounds, words, or expressions along the way.

But Shona is more than just a language.

It's a connection to family.
It's a connection to heritage.
It's a connection to community.

Whether you're looking to reconnect with your roots, learn for the first time, or help your children embrace their heritage, our Shona classes provide a welcoming and supportive space to begin your journey.

Throughout the month, Mr Patrick will be sharing language tips, cultural insights, and practical phrases to help you build confidence in Shona.
