*SLEEP DEPRIVATION IN PARENTS*

when you are tired and stressed your cortisol levels rise, making it harder for you to sleep.

YOU'VE ENTERED A SLEEP VICIOUS CIRCLE

So how to combat this?

📲 turn off screens 1 hour before bedtime

📖 make lists to empty your head

🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️ meditate/ relax in a dark room

☕️ avoid caffeine later in the day and make sure you get plenty of water

🌞 get fresh air during the day

🌿 lavender baths/ spray before bed

How do you relax in the evening?

Awake windows and naptimes

Have you ever heard the saying sleep breeds sleep? Its so true!!!

A babys sleep needs changes so much in the first year, until they arr 8 weeks old a baby doesn't produce melatonin or cortisol and sleep is based purely on sleep pressure.

From 3 months onwards a gentle routine will allow your baby to get into a good day and night sleep schedule

An overtired baby and child will struggle to go to sleep and stay asleep as they will have built up too much cortisol.

A bad day of naps leads to a bad nights sleep!!

If you're in need of support of getting your naps right and sleep back on track. Get in touch today!!

4 options for an easy transition with the clock changes this Sunday

1) early Risers

Do nothing!!! Adjust the routine to the new wake up time. Be aware of awake windows and nap times/ lengths to maintain the later wakings

2) meet in the middle
Great for toddlers and routine sensitive older children

Put your child to bed half an hour earlier Saturday and half an hour earlier Sunday

3) all in 1

Great for older children. Put them to bed an hour earlier Saturday. Take advantage of the great weather ☀️🌡 to make sure they are tired and ready to sleep

4) staggered approach.

Move the whole routine forward by 15 minutes each day starting from Wednesday bedtime so by Saturday your routine is an hour earlier. Your child will wake up at their "normal" time Sunday having adjusted to the routine changes

Let me know if you need any more support!!

Lovely review from a client this morning. If you need help getting your sleep back on track please get in touch!!

Routines have always been important to us but after a major sleep regression we were struggling to nail awake windows and ending up with catnaps. A trouble shooter call with Kat got us back on track. We followed her suggestions and within 3 days we were back to long naps and sleeping through the night. kat is really knowledgeable about all things baby and is a great support. Thanks Kat!
