Westminster Under School

Westminster Under School Ambitious, nurturing, inspiring: a world-class preparatory education for seven to 13 year olds. 2027 entry registration is NOW OPEN for girls and boys.

Westminster Under School is an independent preparatory school for boys aged 7 to13, in the heart of London. The school has a rich and distinguished history, dating back to 1943 when it was founded in Little Dean's Yard, just behind Westminster Abbey. Since 1981 the school has been situated on an outstanding site in Vincent Square, overlooking the Westminster School playing fields. The boys enjoy t

heir time at school and are encouraged to think for themselves, to engage fully in discussion and to take pride in their own and their fellow pupils’ achievements. Entry to the school is by selective assessment at Year 3, 4 and 7. We have high academic standards, but we pride ourselves also on giving a full and rounded education and value the boys’ contributions in all areas of school life, including sport, music, art and drama. With around 285 pupils, our staff build strong relationships with the boys, and our pastoral care is strong. Alongside academic excellence and a well-balanced education, we promote the idea of respect for others and of their responsibilities in an increasingly challenging world.

Can AI write a masterpiece? And who gets to decide what makes writing meaningful?

Year 7 put their thinking caps on during a workshop with Dr Rebecca Mace from the University of Worcester, exploring writing, AI and the importance of student voice. Plenty of food for thought.

Last week, our pupils were scattered across the map.

Years 3, 5, 6 and 7 spent their end-of-term residentials in Somerset, Wales, Shropshire and the Isle of Wight, swapping the familiar for something a little different.

A camera roll full of smiles suggests it was time well spent.

Now, it's Year 8's turn as they spend the week in Amsterdam.

Some of the best learning moments happen between the pages of a book. Away from the classroom and settled into the quiet of the library, pupils found themselves exactly where great readers often do, completely absorbed. 📚
