Critical Life Skill: Tolerate, even try, to love your own company.
You’re going to be alone with one person for more than 90% of your life.
You.
When you are in between relationships, or moving out to your own place in a new town, or starting a new job, or just waiting for a meal, bus, train or plane.
And it's quite likely that you don't like this “You”. This “You” bores you, irritates you, makes you fidget, exasperates, annoys.
Makes you anxious. This “You” doesn’t create joy, excitement, peace, dopamine or serotonin.
This “You” therefore searches for distractions.
Nobody wants to be with this You.
Why not try and tolerate yourself a little? Perhaps by becoming aware that you find it difficult to love your own company is a good start. Why not figure out how to tolerate yourself a little better everyday? Maybe it’ll turn into like, and rarely also into love(unless you’re a full blown self obsessed narcissist to begin with)
The more you tolerate your idiocies, anxieties, pettiness, meanness, dullness, unimaginativeness, and overall irritation with your weak-assedness, the more you’ll find others attracted to this new “You.”
Strategy ain’t planning.
