📣 Sound on!

A spontaneous moment whilst out walking through our local park not only offered a wonderful moment to connect with nature. (Oh my goodness these ducklings are adorable!) but also promoted a moment of maths. Simply counting the ducks (not an easy task with moving playful ducklings!)

Often as a parent, it can feel that the message is that we need to focus on formal learning. This clip demonstrates how even a few moments in the park offered a learning opportunity. One which was motivating.

As the parent - this is a moment to step back and then model language. Perhaps start by counting too. “Oh look there’s one more!” “Let’s count on one from ten… 10…11!” “There are 11 ducks swimming in the lake.”

Being in the room with so many people who champion PLAY was truly a special day. Well worth the trip to Birmingham for the Move More and Play conference led by the brilliant and

Ruth Le-Quee continuing her tireless campaign to champion learning through PLAY. As parents and teachers we need to advocate for our children. Did you know that learning through play is already part of the education system in Wales and Scotland? - England in the outlier and this needs to change!
👉 Please show your support for the campaign by following and emailing your MP - collectively we have the power to make change happen 💜✨

It was fascinating to hear Dr Will share research backed by science which shows how play isn’t a nice to have. Time to shift our education systems focus on the perceived ‘sitting at a desk is good learning’ - actually this is passive. PLAY offers challenge and builds our children’s brains!

was a mix of absolute joy moving to music, nursery rhymes and bringing the disco to the event 🙌 I am still however in shock from the study showing how our children’s lack of physical activity contributes to an unhealthy lifestyle and that children today will have a shortened life expectancy because of it. Reminding us that the guidance shows children under 5 are recommended 180 minutes of physical activity a day - this drops to 60 minutes after 5yrs - small changes can help such as walking to school.

- what lucky children to attend your school and be in your classroom. Hugely inspiring to hear how classroom teachers in primary can shift to a continuous play provision. 🌟

Great to connect with other passionate educators at the event. One of whom, Helen .and.move I’ve known since my eldest and I attended her baby massage classes, 9 years ago!

Brilliant to also see supporting the event and sharing fascinating insights into risky play outdoors - essential for our children 🌿🙌

THANK YOU for all the hard work behind the scenes to put this special event together. The goodie bags were amazing too! Thank you 🤩
