At this stage — after assessment has been conducted and we’ve targeted those learning gaps with explicit teaching intervention, we consolidate the learning.

Consolidation is something that schools often do poorly and we don’t do enough of. It’s the final step to ensuring that concepts have been mastered, before we move on to the next.

After we’ve completed the initial step of assessment, we move towards ‘Intervention’. Intervention includes targeted teaching, allowing us to bridge those learning gaps identified within the assessment phase.

At SMEC, we ensure to use UK standardised assessment as our first point of call. This allows your child to have the greatest opportunity to thrive at school, with the expert support and scaffolding provided, to ensure they thrive academically.

Three pillars that combine together to make the SMEC Learning Method: Assessment, Intervention & Consolidation.

Taken from the UK Department of Education: In 2023, only 59% of Year 6 students met the expected academic outcomes for reading, writing and maths combined.

After 7 years of schooling — we expect more performance and attainment from our students and we must start asking ourselves: what has gone wrong? What can be done better?

At SMEC we will be bridging those learning gaps for all our students, with the aim of increasing academic outcomes for all.

What would you say if we told you that the future of education is personalised?

Some difficult lessons that we learnt during covid-19 were that schools were severely underprepared for the transition to online learning. Parents also found themselves supporting their children’s education but without knowing where to start.

As a result, we now have cohorts of children returning to school with learning gaps which only widen as the years progress. Schools have tried very hard to bridge these gaps, but realised that catering to “all” students is a challenging task — and this is where the importance of a personalised education comes into play.

Our aim at SMEC us to provide a bespoke education because that is the ultimate way forwards. We believe that our children are unique and deserving of a education to help build their confidence and potential.

Some great tips for our 11+ candidates who will be sitting their exams at the end of this year.

Also great advice for our older students who may be needing some extra study support as the new academic year has begun.

It’s almost that time of year again. Summer holidays are drawing to a close and the academic year begins! Excitement, nerves and mixed emotions.

The beginning of the new school year can also be a stressful time. Learning harder concepts, meeting new teachers and making new friends. Getting back into the routine often takes time. For

For this reason, SMEC will be available for tutoring across all years (primary and secondary) and our aim is to help children with their learning gaps, in order to increase their confidence and their academic performance at school.

Beginning January 2024. More info to come!
