I receive so many messages from parents who are worried about their child’s vocabulary for the 11+.

I completely understand why. Vocabulary can feel overwhelming, especially when children are expected to understand unfamiliar words in comprehension and use a wider range of vocabulary in their writing.

But vocabulary isn’t something that can be improved overnight. It needs to be built gradually, revisited regularly and used in context.

That’s exactly what we do in my 11+ Vocab Booster Club.

Choose from Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday during term time.
During the school holidays, we meet every Monday morning at 9am!

DM “VOCAB” for more details - I’d love to help.

One thing I refuse to do as a qualified teacher and 11+ tutor…
…make a child feel like they’re “not good enough.”

I’ve taught and tutored children for many years, and one thing has always stayed with me:
The children who make the most progress aren’t always the ones who start with the strongest English skills. They’re the ones who feel safe enough to have a go, make mistakes and keep trying.

As a qualified teacher, and a qualified mindfulness teacher, I know that confidence isn’t just a bonus. It plays an important role in how children learn.

That’s why in my lessons, you’ll never hear me shame a child for getting an answer wrong or make them feel embarrassed for asking a question.

Instead, we celebrate effort, build resilience and create an environment where children feel confident enough to tackle challenges.

I’d love to know - what qualities do you think make a great tutor?

One of the biggest misconceptions about online tuition is that children miss out on individual support.

Even though lessons take place online and children learn in small groups, every child receives personalised feedback on their work from a qualified teacher -👋🏽

After completing an assignment, children upload their work directly to our online learning platform, where I carefully review each piece and provide specific guidance on:
✨ what they have done well
✨ areas to improve
✨ how to strengthen their answers
✨ the next steps they need to take to progress

Whether it’s creative writing, comprehension or exam technique, my aim is to help every child understand exactly how to improve.

Children don’t just need more practice; they need expert guidance to help them make that practice count.

If your child is starting Year 5 and you’d like them to build strong 11+ English foundations, join the waiting list for my Year 5 11+ English Club.

DM me “ENGLISH” and I’ll send you the details.

It’s completely natural for parents to want to give their child the best possible chance in the 11+. You want them to feel prepared, confident and ready.

But sometimes, with the best intentions, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking more work = more progress.

The reality is that children need time to process, practise and build confidence. When revision becomes overwhelming, it can lead to:
- Feeling stressed or anxious
- Losing motivation
- Becoming resistant to learning
- Burnout

The summer before Year 6 is a valuable time to prepare, but it’s also a time to rest, recharge and enjoy being a child.

The most effective preparation is often little and often:
✨ Revisiting key skills
✨ Strengthening weaker areas
✨ Reading regularly and building vocabulary
✨ Practising exam techniques

Focused sessions with plenty of breaks are far more effective than long days of cramming.

Remember, the goal isn’t to complete endless worksheets or practice papers. It’s to help your child become a calm, confident and capable learner who feels ready for the 11+.

Balance is key.

How are you balancing 11+ preparation and downtime this summer?

Who said online lessons can’t be fun, interactive and full of connection?

Today, my Year 5s will be celebrating the end of the year with a Bright Minds Club Party! 🥳

In our online group lessons, the children have built such a lovely community together - and this party is a chance for them to step away from their pens and paper & instead play fun games and celebrate everything they’ve achieved.

They’re invited to bring along their favourite snack, drink, and their best jokes or funny stories to share with the group. 🫣

They’ve worked so hard this year, so it’ll be a wonderful opportunity to have some fun, connect with their online friends, and celebrate the progress they’ve made together.

I can’t wait to see everyone there!

If you’d like more information about joining my Year 5 English 11+ Club next year, send me a DM and I’d be happy to share the details. 😊
