London Music Excellence Residency 2026

We are delighted to share a warm welcome from Paul Hoskins, Director of Music at The Purcell School, to the selected young musicians joining London Music Academy’s flagship UK Residency this October.

The Purcell School is Britain’s oldest specialist music school and one of the world’s leading centres for music education, holding Royal Patronage from His Majesty King Charles III and recognised with the UNESCO Mozart Gold Medal for its contribution to music, education and international culture. Its distinguished alumni include Jacob Collier, the multi-Grammy-winning musician and composer; acclaimed composer and conductor Oliver Knussen; internationally celebrated harpist Catrin Finch; composer and performer Mica Levi; and leading young concert pianist Martin James Bartlett.

For our students, however, the real privilege is not simply visiting such an institution—it is entering its environment.

🏛️ THE PURCELL SCHOOL RESIDENCY
What does it mean to actually live, study, practise and make music inside one of Britain’s most prestigious specialist music schools? Kathryn discussed the planned learning activities, interaction with the Purcell community, and why experiencing this environment from within can broaden a young musician’s aspirations and understanding of elite British music education.

🎻 CONCERTO WITH ORION ORCHESTRA | DUKE’S HALL
This is far more than a performance—it is a study journey.

From repertoire preparation and professional rehearsals to the final performance at Duke’s Hall, the principal concert hall of the Royal Academy of Music, students experience the concerto as a collaborative effort, a disciplined endeavour and an opportunity for mentorship.

Working alongside professional musicians requires students to listen, respond, communicate and take responsibility as soloists. Through rehearsal, feedback and collaboration, they develop musical leadership, orchestral awareness, professional discipline and genuine stage confidence. The performance is the culmination; much of the learning happens on the journey towards it.

LMA’s Flagship UK Programme for Serious Young Musicians

19 - 25 October, London Music Academy brings its flagship UK residency for serious young musicians home to Britain—connecting selected students directly with: elite music education at The Purcell School and professional performance with Orion Orchestra culminating at Duke’s Hall, principal concert hall at Royal Academy of Music.

🏛️ LIVE & STUDY AT THE PURCELL SCHOOL

Britain’s oldest specialist music school, Purcell has an extraordinary record of developing young talent. Alumni include Jacob Collier, Mica Levi, Martin James Bartlett, Alexis Ffrench and Alim Beisembayev, while its graduates regularly progress to the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Guildhall and other leading international conservatoires. Recent students have also progressed to Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and Juilliard. Many conservatoire offers also carried scholarships.

Our students will not simply tour the School. They will live there, practise there, study intensively, attend workshops, rehearse with Purcell pupils and experience its musical community from within, concluding with a Graduation Concert.

🎓 Each participant receives a Certificate of Completion signed by Paul Bambrough, Principal of The Purcell School.

🎻 FROM EDUCATION TO THE PROFESSION — ORION ORCHESTRA

Selected students then progress to concerto collaboration with Orion Orchestra, culminating at Duke’s Hall, Royal Academy of Music.

Orion itself occupies an interesting place in the British musical career pipeline: its players are selected from talented music-college students and recent graduates and given professional-level orchestral experience. Its alumni have progressed into the Royal Opera House Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English National Opera Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and other leading ensembles.

🏅 Concerto participants will receive a certificate signed by Jan Cassidy, CEO of Orion Orchestra.

For us, connection matters. Meeting the right educators, young musicians, professional players and practitioners allows students to understand how the music world actually works—and where their own abilities might take them.

📚The residency will therefore also include a MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOP,sharing practical guidance and first-hand perspectives from practitioners and former scholarship recipients on applications, scholarships and future pathways.

And its value is not limited to future conservatoire students. For those ultimately pursuing Oxford, Cambridge or completely different professional careers, serious music demonstrates discipline, creativity, leadership, collaboration and confidence—and creates an international cultural network that can remain valuable for life.

We don’t simply want students to see prestigious institutions. We want them to understand the people, standards and pathways behind them, starting to plan for their music scholarship and begin building their own connections to the heartland of music world.

🌟🇹🇭🇨🇳 Student Ambassador Spotlight | Prompimon “Supreme” Prucsasri Supreme to Beyond

One of the most meaningful moments of our Chengdu journey was watching Prompimon “Supreme” Prucsasri rehearse and perform side by side with talented young Chinese musicians in the Thai–Chinese Student Ensemble.

Different languages, different backgrounds—yet once the music began, everyone understood one another. 🎶❤️

Under the guidance of TianQi Liu Professor Liu Tianqi, Principal Conductor of London Music Academy, Supreme and her Chinese peers brought this idea beautifully to life: young musicians learning from one another, sharing cultures, building friendships and creating harmony together.

For London Music Academy, this experience represents exactly what cross-cultural music education should be—more than performance, and more than a competition. Music becomes a universal language through which young people discover the world and one another.

We are incredibly proud to welcome Prompimon “Supreme” Prucsasri as a London Music Academy Student Ambassador 2026–2027. Her warmth, confidence, community spirit and commitment to cultural exchange embody the values we hope to nurture in the next generation.
