At SLD, we focus on the whole child. Academic excellence is paramount to us but so is treating our students as individuals and supporting them with their confidence and resilience. When you start your journey with us, you can rest assured that you’ll leave us a better version of yourself, academically and personally. 💫

This year 5 student was learning what 'MORERAPS' stood for in school before the Easter break so first week back I thought a quick 'pop test' to see what she's remembered and I was extremely impressed!
Random 'pop tests' on subjects you have taught a few weeks ago in your class, allows you to see what your students have absorbed and retained, from what you have been teaching them.

How often does your child read? 📖
Did you know it is recommended that your child reads EVERY day, and as soon as they can turn the pages of a book, they should be taught to love and respect their books and any others they may be lucky enough to read!

This year 2 student has been working on fractions at school - halves (1/2), thirds (1/3) and quarters (1/4). Being a visual learner, these types of activities enable this student to fully grasp the concept of splitting shapes or items into halves, thirds or quarters.
At times, being taught in a class of 26-30 students, quite often by one teaching method, means that our learners who absorb information differently, aren't always receiving the correct teaching for them to completely understand what is being asked.
Having a tutor, who knows how your child learns best, means they receive the support and guidance needed to reach and even excel their attainment targets!

Going over certain topics with individual students who haven't quite grasped the full concept of something whilst at school means they can achieve the learning outcomes needed to move onto the next topic.
At SLD Education we can support your children with their homework, prepare them for exams and reinforce school teaching by using a variety of methods adapted and personalised for each individual child.
This child is a visual learner which means he learns best by seeing the information as diagrams or pictures, that he has helped to draw himself, in order to understand the information.
TOP TIP!!!! It's handy to remember we don't all absorb information in the same way!

When one of our students lose interest in an activity they have already started, our tutors often have to think on their feet to re-engage the child whilst ensuring the learning intentions are still been met.
Here we are unscrambling words so they make simple sentences. Why write them out the conventional way when you can cut them up and stick them down!

This is the next set of 'blends' we have been focusing on. You can see how hard this year 2 student has been working especially with his reading and writing. It is evident through his joined up writing how much he has been improving!

What can you infer from this picture?
Inference is using observation and background to reach a logical conclusion. You probably practice inference every day. For example, if you see someone eating a new food and he or she makes a face, then you infer he does not like it. Or if someone slams a door, you can infer that she is upset about something.
Let us know your inferences below.
