We never get bored of entering these magical environments and witnessing firsthand these incredible feats of engineering and always feel extremely privileged being in the company of these great tunnellers.

50m below ground and 7km into a dead end isn’t everybody’s ideal workplace, however, the culture, camaraderie and work ethos is world class for the British Tunnelling Teams and very similar to that of UK FRS.

Blue sky day for flying… How many places can you recognise from the air?

On Friday evening, Rachel and I were fortunate to attend the Sheriffs Ball, a fantastic fundraising charity event held at Guildhall, London.
Fundraising with style, fine dining, tradition and fun. Truly best of British and honoured to be in the company of Dame Susan Langley, Alderwoman, Sheriff & Chair of Gallagher and Sheriff Bronek Masojada.
Nice to see lots of familiar friendly faces and meet some new friends too. Major Emergency Incident on HS2

Is not a headline anyone wants to read, thankfully the site teams at Balfour Beatty VINCI Sublot 4 and emergency services have conducted a significant multi casualty emergency scenario to ensure and validate their emergency preparedness and joint working strategies. Many casualties were at multiple levels across the vast structure, presenting a range of challenges for the teams in attendance.

A massive well done to all involved from the various site teams and contractors, specialist Blue light teams from West Midlands Fire Service, West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust, British Transport Police HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd. There was an impressive display of skill and joint working from all agencies not to mention a vast amount of enthusiasm and teamwork!

Although incidents like this are rare and exceptional, it is critically important, and a legislative requirement, that sites have suitable and sufficient emergency arrangements in place. Congratulations to everyone that worked so hard to achieve the required outcomes. Elite Safety, Training & Rescue Ltd have been honoured to work with the site teams over the past 3yrs assisting with their capacity building. Investing in safety pays dividends for Balfour Beatty VINCI following hugely successful safety week.

I was delighted to be invited to support the recent week long safety event, where myself and members from the team at Elite Safety, Training & Rescue Ltd, were able to interact with our clients and end users answering any questions and showcasing some of the services we offer and deliver accross the HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd project.

Some amazing feedback was received and participation levels were high.

Inspiring the next generation of Tunnellers, Constructors & Engineers

Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture held an open day this weekend at the Logistics Hub and Training Academy, it gave people an opportunity to gain a real insight into what the HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd project is currently doing and explore different areas in detail.

Despite the changeable weather, the attendance levels were fantastic, there was a great deal of interest and participation and the next generation certainly left with a greater level of knowledge and understanding not to mention beaming smiles across their faces.

Team members from Elite Safety, Training & Rescue Ltd were delighted to assist our long term partners by facilitating Immersive Tunnel Tours, First Aid, Rescue and Water Safety micro sessions. As well as hosting a stand of “shiny things” to ignite the imagination and prompt questions, whilst showcasing the services we provide across the project.

It was an honour to meet so many people, including heads of organisations with boots on the ground James Richardson & Katrina Dowding.

A great day with lots of worthwhile experiences and memories for all those that attended. Well done SCS and all those involved in the planning and organising of this very successful event. 👏🏻👏🏻
