On Tuesday the Circus came to SMMS with Steve Sparkles. Year 3/4 spent the day learning circus skills and performed to their parents and the rest of the school at the end of the day. They are reading a class book called Leon and the Place Between all about a circus.

This week has been a celebration of books and reading. We have been eagerly following the Masked Reader, did you guess who was reading a story? We have had a quiz, bedtime stories read by staff and the whole school has read and written about “The Midnight Panther” by Poonam Mistry. On Thursday, everyone dressed up as a book character or as a word. It was a fabulous day!

We have had some brilliant trips this half term across the school. Year 1 and Year 2 visited the South London Gallery to learn about abstract art, Year 5 and Year 6 visited the British Museum to look at Anglo Saxon artefacts and saw a black and white film at the London Breeze film festival at Battersea Power Station. Year 6 attended the Southwark Junior Citizenship scheme to learn life skills and Year 3 and Year 4 have been to the Southbank Centre to view the exhibition “Leap Year", by the internationally renowned Korean artist Haegue Yang as part of their learning on textiles and collage in art. What a busy half term!

Mrs Harding, Mrs Woodcraft, and 16 children represented our school at the Institution and Induction of our new Vicar Reverend Dean Pusey. We look forward to Reverend Dean leading Collective Worship, end of term services and joining our Governing Body.

Carnival came to Peckham and Nunhead this week, we made costumes and instruments and made lots of noise! We finished the day with International Evening, sharing food and celebrating together with music and dancing.

Year 6 had a brilliant time at PGL residential. This could not have happened without the very generous donations from our local community and charity grants - The Henry Smith Charity, St Olave's and St Saviour's Foundation and Newcomen Collett Foundation.
