As a school we would like to celebrate the recent running achievement of Daniel Espinola in Year 8. Daniel is a footballer by choice, but under the encouragement of Head of PE Mr Eydmann (and mum) he entered the 5km Bexley Park Run on 22nd March and achieved a time of 22:52. He was given the overall position of 37th out of 392 entrants.

But in the ‘11-14 Years’ age category he came an impressive 10th. Many of the children he was running against are members of local running clubs and up to 2 years older than him.

We are so proud of Daniel taking up this new challenge (and have our fingers crossed that with his time he might qualify for the London Mini Marathon this year or next) and Mr Edymann will be ensuring he joins our Junior Athletics’ Team!

Year 9 7-A-Side Tournament

Thank you to Mr Toney, PE teacher, who took the Year 9 football team away to Bexleyheath Academy for a 7-a-side tournament.

The students preformed really well and progressed all the way to the final, narrowly losing out on the cup in a penalty shootout.

Congratulations to our Silver Medal winning Boccia Team

On Wednesday our Boccia Team were trying to recreate last years Gold medal winning form at the London Youth Games. The games during the day were played at a very high level and were very challenging - with a very close final game - our students came away with the Silver medal - a fantastic achievement nonetheless!

To see how close the game was take a look at the picture - we were playing 'red'.

Well done to our students

Tate Britain Product Design Visit

On February 11th the year 11 GCSE Product Design class visited the Tate Britain near Westminster as part of their research for their GCSE sketch books.

Students took photographs on their journey from school, traveling by train to Waterloo then walking through Parliament Square. They took photographs inside the gallery that they will then use to support designing for their coursework.

Although it was a very cold day, the sun was shining as you can see from the photograph

Promoting Healthy Masculinity Workshops

We are looking forward to the 'Voicebox' workshops running today and tomorrow for Year 9 & 10 students as part of their PSHE studies.

‘Voicebox’ is an organisation that has engaged over 20,000 students and collaborated with 105 organisations across the UK to deliver workshops that empower and educate secondary school students.

Their workshops will engage our students in key areas of the PSHE curriculum including understanding gender roles and exploring personal identity and will help them to develop skills in communication and oracy alongside their own views on what masculinity means to them.

This important part of the PSHE curriculum will encourage all of our students to express their own views on issues that arise within social media and the world. They will collaborate, through dialogue, to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

Mr O'Halloran
Head of RE & PSHE
