Last week, my mum and I visited Blanchard Combined School, and they were so ready and prepared for usโit was a wonderful visit! A huge thank you to the Principal Ms. Merle Emmanuel , Ms. Trina Euristee and all the wonderful teachers and students
for such a lovely, warm welcome! ๐๐พ
During our assembly, we talked about the many benefits of reading:
โจ Reading helps you find totally new words you didn't know before.
โจ You Can Go on ADVENTURES! Books let you travel to magical places, meet amazing characters, and do wild things without even leaving your room!
โจ Reading Makes You Feel HAPPY! When you read a story, you feel like you're part of it. It's like watching a movie in your brain!
โจ You Get to Know HOW Things Work! Books teach you about animals, space, history, and everything in the world!
โจ Reading Helps You Sleep Better! Reading before bed is super relaxing and helps you have cozy dreams.
โจ You Become a Better Writer! When you read lots of books, you learn how to write better stories too!
โจ Reading Makes You SUPER SMART! Kids who read a lot learn more than kids who don't read as much.
Top Tip: Cover these books in clear sticky plastic! Keeps them pristine so they stay fresh and appealing for kids to grab again and again.

๐ Back to The Vieux Fort Special Education Centre! ๐
Last week, I was so happy to revisit The Vieux Fort Special Education Centreโthe very first school I visited when I arrived in Saint Lucia last year!
A huge thank you to the amazing Principal Ms. Melka Daniel, Johnson JKube James, and all the wonderful teachers for always welcoming me with such warmth. The children were absolutely thrilled with the books! When I brought out some Lionel Messi books, their excitement spiked and the conversation became Team Ronaldo vs. Team Messi! โฝ
Choosing books that match students' interests is so important at school. What matters even more is giving them time to read, explore, and discuss what they love. Seeing how much they enjoyed this selection made my day, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
Pro tip: Always wrap books in sticky plastic! It keeps them pristine and keeps children excited to read them for much longer. ๐โจ

๐ School Visit to Les Etangs Combined School! ๐
Today, my mum and I visited Les Etangs Combined School in Soufriere. A huge thank you to Principal Ms. Nisha Gidharry for facilitating our visit to her wonderful school! As I laid out the books for display, the children began chattering excitedly, scanning the impressive range of titles!
I chose some amazing books perfect for all primary age levels, including beloved series that keep kids reading:
๐ฆ Non-fiction series about Animals
๐ Magic Tree House adventure series (hugely popular!)
๐ญ William Shakespeare collection (rewritten for younger readers)
๐ฐ Llama Quest epic fantasy chapter book series
The children's excitement was wonderful to see! It was great to have discussions about the various books displayed; and now they have an opportunity to read them all, as they will be in their school library! It was a pleasure to spend time with them today.
Top Tip: Cover these books in clear sticky plastic! Keeps them pristine so they stay fresh and appealing for kids to grab again and again. ๐โจ
A huge thank you to Ms. Emma Hippolyte for providing the contact information for local schools in Soufriere. I look forward to donating wonderful books to more schools in Soufriere! ๐

๐๐โจ Special Visit to Reunion Primary School! โจ๐
What an incredible honor to be part of Reunion Primary School's Reading Month celebration assembly this May! ๐ In Saint Lucia, May was Reading Month with the beautiful theme "Reading Reimagined," and I was so blessed to be included in the festivities. ๐๐๐
This visit was extra special because it was my OLD school! Reunion Primary is where I earned my very first reading certificateโthe one I still treasure to this day! ๐ Having grown up reading stories with my mum and my sister, coming back to share my love and passion for reading with the children felt like a beautiful full-circle moment. ๐โค๏ธ
The children were so engaged and excited about books, and it was a pleasure to inspire the next generation of readers. I hope to visit them again soon! ๐
Top Tip: Cover these books in clear sticky plastic! Keeps them pristine so they stay fresh and appealing for kids to grab again and again. ๐โจ

๐งธโจ What a Wonderful Visit to Delcer Pre-School! โจ๐งธ
We had such a lovely, sweet visit to Delcer Pre-School! The children welcomed us with open arms and made us feel right at home from the very first moment. ๐
We spent quality time browsing books and having wonderful conversations about our favorite stories. One of the absolute highlights of our visit was discussing our reading companions! At this age, children love reading with their soft toys, and it was so adorable to hear how they each had their special cuddly friend to share stories with. ๐
Top Tip: Cover these books in clear sticky plastic! Keeps them pristine so they stay fresh and appealing for kids to grab again and again. ๐โจ
I canโt wait to visit again! โบ๏ธ

๐โค๏ธ It was a joy to visit Mongouge Combined School in Choiseul, where I was warmly invited by teacher Miss Donsica Eudovique and Principal Miss Ferria Modeste. I adored the school's vibrant energy, with its brightly decorated walls bursting with inspiring artworkโwhat a fantastic place to learn and grow!
Top Tips for developing a school reading culture:
๐ Read Daily
When: Set aside time to listen to stories every single day. Consistency is more important than duration!
How long: Aim for about 20 minutes. If that feels too long, start shorter. The key is making it a daily habit that children can look forward to.
๐Picking the Perfect Book
Always let students choose! Allowing children to vote and to select the book is a powerful way to build excitement and ownership.
Provide variety. Offer a fantastic selection of new, high-quality books, including a mix of fiction and non-fiction, to appeal to all interests.
Donโt forget non-fiction! Reading non-fiction aloud is a great way to introduce children to a wider range of genres and topics.
Top Tip: Cover these books in clear sticky plastic! Keeps them pristine so they stay fresh and appealing for kids to grab again and again. ๐โจ
Wishing everyone at Mongouge Combined a Happy Reading Month!๐
