📯💰BEAUTIFUL PROJECT TO SUPPORT 💰📯

So excited for this Meg Igarashi! ❤️🌸

“Through this film, we want to explore Aya’s attempt at navigating her Japanese and British identities by showing different periods of her life. When she is younger, she feels very connected to her Japanese heritage, but as she gets older, she distances herself away from her roots. As we see the changes she undergoes at each stage of her life, we reflect with Aya on the things that affect who we become and how others’ perceptions of us impact how we see ourselves.”

“With food being an integral part of culture, it will play a key role in I Never Learned I Love You. Through food, we will see this “rift” that Aya experiences between her two cultures. In many Asian countries such as Japan, it is uncommon for people to say or hear the words “I love you”. However, to ask somebody if they’ve eaten or offer them food, is an expression of respect and love.”

Social skills improving through celebration of safely grounded madness (AKA ‘being Autistic out loud’, AKA ‘unmasking’):

I pointed at a passing woman’s face in the hospital waiting area reception (baseline bad vibes, definitely improved by Yang-ass Spirit shouts as proven last night in the A&E when a bunch of us rode our pain madness waves and mutual derision into a very cheerful and structurally complete sitcom episode) and said, “I’ve seen you before.”

I was totally confident I had.
It became clear this was not true.
I did not double down, but waved at the sky brain, apologised and enjoyed a shared giggle sesh with a character who assumes if someone recognises her it must be from ‘out clubbing’ which for me is wildly unlikely to be the case.

Afterwards, an overworked nurse on the phone to someone synchronistically (with that weird ‘it just hits that way’ sensation of direct psychic communication) says, celebratorily, (obviously experiencing a Leadership win),
“Let’s be brave, Giuseppe!”

After putting the phone down, she declared to the reception team, with satisfied finality, “let’s be brave!”

And now I want a tattoo or a t-shirt that says, LETS BE BRAVE GIUSEPPE

The end x

Creative Writing for English Fluency SUCCESS SESSION - Frankie Lewis 29/03/2023

Why does Creative Writing improve grades overall?

Before unlocking my creative expression, I had ‘starting anxiety’.

I had no idea how to structure a response to an exam question- I was the kid that sat down, stared at the question and asked, “Sir, what should I write first?”

(My students only ask this once.)

My main focus with my students has honestly never been grades. I don’t really care. I know that good grades come as a result of habitual patterns of enthusiastic and thorough application and integration of practices.

What?
Nothing.

What I’m saying is: it was a real surprise when my students’ parents came back all at once with a collection of testimonials that widely reflected an *overall improvement*.

Why was this a thing?

I thought about it, with each of the students who had shown this improvement.

Together, we had worked on patterns of comprehension, yes, but, more importantly,

expression.

We had worked through anxieties about ‘finding the right word’; about ‘I don’t know what this means’; about committing to a structure and following it through. We had learned how to identify the effect you want to have on the reader, and then how to create the effect.

We had burst through hesitation around sharing work- sharing thoughts; opinions; clear conclusions.

If you’re answering a written Science exam question and you flop between scenarios without guiding your examiner’s understanding, you’re likely to miss marks.

If you’re evaluating the effect of the railway on the Industrial Revolution but your argument has no driving emotional undertow then you’re gonna bore the examiner. Those velvet ropes between you and the top marks are gonna stay hooked to the shiny gold post because you haven’t shown flair. You haven’t shown fluency. You haven’t shown clear understanding. You might have it! But you haven’t shown it. (Equally, you can show it without really having it…)

In conclusion,

Learning how to tell stories well is the foundation of all communication. Communication is what achieves grades.

Do you know that we say ‘grade’ for the clarity of a diamond?

That’s what I’m talking about.

The End.

Autistic burnout is an experience that autistic people can go through throughout their lives and it can be devastating. It affects every aspect of the individual’s psychological, physical and emotional condition and can lead to an extreme state of crisis. Autistic burnout is not the same as neurotypical burnout, which is usually caused by working or studying too hard.

Whilst in a state of burnout, an autistic person may find it very hard to express and describe what they are experiencing or feeling and may not have the words to explain their symptoms.

If an autistic person has other diagnoses, co-existing conditions (or misdiagnosed mental health condition/personality disorder), then it can mean autistic burnout is missed by professionals. This can lead to the wrong support, therapy or advice being given to the individual, or no support in many cases.

Diagnosed (or undiagnosed) autistic people, need the right advice and information regarding autistic burnout. Prevention of burnout, wherever possible is ultimately the best treatment. But this is not always possible and in order to prevent crisis, autistic people need help to deal with and recover from burnout.

Once in a state of extreme burnout and crisis, if they are unable to rest, recover and access an appropriate safe place, an autistic person is at higher risk of su***de. There may also be offending behaviour, in some cases leading to custodial prison sentences. With changes to the mental health bill regarding autistic people and admission to inpatient settings, the possibility that more autistic people in crisis will end up in prison is a significant concern.
