✨ Week 3 complete at Astria Learning Studio! 💛

Another three fantastic sessions, and one of the best things has been seeing the children’s confidence beginning to develop. They’re becoming more willing to have a go, explain their thinking and tackle questions that require a little more perseverance. 🧠

This week:

➕ Years 3 & 4 developed their column addition skills, focusing on accurate place value and the formal written method.

🔢 Year 5 compared and ordered 6 digit numbers, using place value knowledge and comparative symbols to justify their answers.

✖️ Year 6 tackled long multiplication, developing accuracy with the formal written method and applying it to SATs style practice.

Remember the post I shared about what our first 7 weeks would look like? We’re now three weeks in, and it’s lovely to see that journey taking shape. Each week is designed to build skills, deepen understanding and, importantly, grow confidence. 💛

✨ Another successful Saturday at Astria Learning Studio!

This week our learners continued building their confidence while developing some really important KS2 maths skills. 💛

🔢 We explored comparing and ordering numbers, using the comparative symbols and applying our understanding to different questions.

📝 Our Year 6 SATs preparation focused on addition and subtraction techniques, including formal column methods and those tricky missing digit questions that require children to think carefully about each step.

There was lots of thinking, explaining, practising and problem solving across the sessions. It’s great to see the children becoming more confident each week! 🧠✨

✨ And that’s our first Saturday at Astria Learning Studio complete! 💛

Today we welcomed our first students for all three KS2 maths sessions, and it was so lovely to finally see everything come together after months of planning and preparation. 📚

We got straight into our maths, explored ideas, talked through our thinking and, most importantly, started building those all important foundations of confidence. 🧠✨

A huge thank you to the parents who have trusted me to support their children’s maths journey. This is only the beginning!

📊 Why does your child’s maths sometimes look so different from the way you learnt it?

In KS2, children use a range of representations to help them see, understand and explain mathematical ideas.

From bar models and number lines to arrays, place value charts and fraction walls, each representation helps make abstract maths more meaningful. 🧠

The aim isn’t for children to rely on them forever. It’s to build deeper understanding so they can eventually work more confidently and independently.
