Our course covering security and trauma first aid essentials for media workers and human rights defenders, in Burmese, will be ready at the end of next week. We want people to do this training and don’t want cost to be a barrier, so if it will be, DM me to find out more and if this course will help support you or someone in your network.

Last November we partnered with the ACOS Alliance and Skeyes Center for Media Freedom to build and deliver an Arabic language security and first aid course for fifty journalists living and working across the Middle East and North Africa. We’re delighted to be partnering again with the Skeyes Center to train another cohort of journalists over the next few months.

This course is also now live on our website for journalists, NGO’s and others who live and work across the MENA region and comprises four modules: Hostile Environment & First Aid; Travel & Personal Safety; Public Disorder & Terrorism and Frontline Safety which can also be taken separately.

This has been a really rewarding project to work on and we can’t wait to meet - and work with - our next MENA-based group.

We’ll also run through the basic emergency first aid protocols for assessment and treatment, from an unconscious casualty to bleeding wounds to choking.

Next week we’re running two 90 minute tutor-led LIVE webinars for those who are signed up to our Civil Unrest and First Aid course.
This first one will teach participants how to operate safely in crowds by building situational awareness and managing crime and conflict situations. We’ll review how to assess police responses to civil disorder, read and understand body language, and non-verbal and verbal communication when dealing with aggression. We’ll also cover conflict management techniques; assessing crowds, safe positioning and safe extraction from an uncontrolled situation.
