Centre for British Politics and Government, Department of Political Economy The Centre for British Democracy has been established within the Department of Political Economy (DPE) to focus on the study of democracy in Britain.

The Centre for British Politics and Government has been established within the Department of Political Economy (DPE) to focus on the study of politics, policymaking, and government in Britain in the recent past. We understand this broadly, to include local politics, society and activism, economic policy and the City of London, as well as central government, political parties and Whitehall. We also believe that it is essential for policymakers to understand the past in their efforts to change the future, and work with History & Policy, a joint initiative between King’s and the University of Cambridge directed by Dr Andrew Blick, to promote this. The Centre includes the Witness Seminar programme previously run by the Institute of Contemporary British History, directed by Dr Michael Kandiah, which has an archive of over 100 seminars on a huge range of topics, such as the 1991 Gulf War, the Child Poverty Action Group, the development of Select Committees, Big Bang in the City, and the roles and functions of UK Embassies and High Commissions. Announcing a funded PhD opportunity: based at the Centre and the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA).
The theme is "Understanding the Regulation of Parliamentary Expenditure".
It is a full-time, 3.5-year funded PhD project involving a 3-month placement at IPSA (with the time at IPSA being spread over the PhD period).
The academic supervisory team consists of Christel Koop (Professor of Political Economy) and Andrew Blick (Professor of Politics and Contemporary History), with Lee Bridges (Director, Policy & Engagement at IPSA) serving as the supervisor at the partner organisation.
