Upcoming Lecture at Heatherley's School of Art, London.

Artist Michael Ajerman presents his lecture on the German painter, Paula Modersohn-Becker

Title: Paula Modersohn-Becker & the Visceral Body

Thursday 2nd February 2023, 4.30 – 6pm

A lecture on artist Paula Modersohn-Becker’s life and work. While widely known in Germany, the Royal Academy’s ‘Making Modernism’ exhibition presents a brilliant display of her work rarely seen abroad. This talk will interpret key works from the show along with others from her life made in less than a decade. This talk will put into context how in the early 1900’s Modersohn-Becker created an approach to painting that was original to her time that defies category. Work that still resonates with a viscerally energy to viewers today.

This lecture will coincide with the current RA exhibition Making Modernism which features the artist.

Talk will be an hour. Followed by Q and A.

This art course will focus on the exhibition of Van Gogh

Self-Portraits at The Courtauld Gallery. Part art history lecture, part life drawing, part painting and drawing projects.

Will begin with a lecture on the Van Gogh’s life and work and how it is presented in the Courtauld exhibition. Shining a light on key works in the show. Will divide the myths from the reality. Also looking at the self portraiture from the 20th/21st century that he helped inspire.
