At The Little House, we deliver a carefully structured sequential curriculum that fully aligns with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and is guided by Development Matters guidance. Our distinctive teaching approach is built upon the philosophical foundations established by Maria Montessori and Jean Piaget's theories of cognitive development, enhanced by our blended approach that incorporates elements of the Curiosity Approach, creating a nurturing environment where children develop independence, confidence, and a genuine love of learning.
Our sequential curriculum ensures that each child's learning journey builds progressively, with experiences carefully planned to support their individual development across all seven areas of learning. Individualised learning is at the heart of our approach, recognising that every child is unique and learns at their own pace with their own interests and strengths. Drawing from Piaget's understanding of how children construct knowledge through active exploration and interaction with their environment, we provide developmentally appropriate experiences that support each child's cognitive growth. Through our Montessori-inspired approach, we provide hands-on, child-led activities that encourage exploration, discovery, and critical thinking. The Curiosity Approach elements within our blended methodology emphasize the use of natural, authentic materials and real-world experiences that spark wonder and investigation, allowing children to make meaningful connections with their environment.
Play is fundamental to The Little House curriculum, as we understand that children learn best through meaningful, purposeful play experiences that allow them to explore, experiment, and express themselves naturally. This combination of structured progression, individualised learning pathways, child-centred learning, and curiosity-driven exploration enables us to deliver rich, meaningful experiences that prepare children for their next steps in education while fostering their natural curiosity, developing essential life skills, and encouraging deep, sustained engagement with learning.

This week pre-schoolers had a lot of fun using their great imagination and creativity to make their own Christmas cards and also Christmas decorations. They were willing to undertake the activity and they demonstrated interest by choosing resources independently. Well done pre-schoolers!

Together we can change young livesโ—

Too many children have experienced the worry, dread, and hopelessness of living through COVID, and the current cost of living crisis is forcing many more families into poverty. Children In Need strives to end this anxiety in many children in the UK.
