✨Sensory overload✨
This post is to give a little information about what sensory overload is, what it may look like and strategies to help cope.
Sensory overload is when one or more of the body’s senses experience over stimulation from the environment.
It could make a person feel unsafe, overexcited or panicky.
There are ways to help an individual deal with sensory overload. Identifying what is triggering it, distracting the individual or moving them away from the trigger or providing ways to filter the stimulation e.g. ear defenders.

World book day 🎉📚
For our continuous provision this week we had a book making and mask making table and a number of different dressing up clothes for the children to choose from. They have really enjoyed dressing up as different characters and reading lots of stories!

✨Half term✨
What a week!
I really enjoy respite sessions in the half term because I get to spend more time with the children and I am able to do different activities with them.
This week, we went to soft play, practiced using the scooter in the rain at the park and jumped in muddy puddles. We also went for a lovely walk around kenley aerodrome. We of course still had time for sensory play, attention activities and working in our fine and gross motor skills.
Time for a well deserved rest!

🗣Verbal routines 🗣
✨ Verbal routines occur when a person repeats the same thing at the exact time an activity or task occurs.
During respite sessions I use verbal routines throughout. They are usually made into songs that are easy to remember.
For example:
✔️ Singing hello and goodbye
✔️ Tidying up toys
✔️ Before leaving or finishing an activity counting down from 5 or 10
Repetition helps to build language and by using verbal routines it can help children to learn specific words and phases and help them to feel safe and secure in their environment.✨

🎊 New Year Fireworks Art 🎊
✨ First week back at school started off with a bang!
The children really enjoyed watching videos of fireworks and talking about celebrating the New Year.
They also loved getting messy hand printing and using glitter to make there own fireworks art. ✨
