Here are 3 tips for Singing in General American for Musical Theatre Actors From a RADA and Central Voice Coach:

1) Stabilize your jaw - most non-americans move there jaws too much in singing American accent songs. This distorts their vowels

2) Find Twang - many singers tend to not use enough twang making their singing in American sound subtly flat or not quite right

3) Work on your Vowel - the General American word for butter, the 'bu' sound is a vowel most non-americans struggle with making their singing sound off and difficult on some high notes.
