The main differences between Schools in the UK and those in Albania.
1. British school pupils have to wear a uniform , but in Albania is not always mandatory. In Albania they can wear more-or-less what they want , while in Britain it’s part of the school policy that pupils should wear a uniform.
2. British schools provide FREE textbooks, exercise books and also for the first three years of primary school they get FREE lunches. In Albania pupils don’t get anything for free , they have to pay everything, starting from textbooks , notebooks or schools objects.
3. In UK kids start school at age 5 or younger. In Albania pupils start their year 1 at age 6.
4. A school day in Britain lasts from 9 am until 3.30 pm. Whereas in Albania it starts at 8 am and finishes at 2 pm.
British schools usually have a 15 minute mid-morning break and one hour for lunch.
5. It’s very unusual to repeat a year in UK. One way in which British schools differ considerably from that of other countries ; it is quite unknown for students to repeat a school year. While in Albania , a student who hasn’t got up to the required level in a particular school year will simply be required to repeat once again the whole year.
6. Teachers are treated respectfully, but don’t earn respect by default . Compared to other parts of the world, the teacher and student relationship is quite informal, but still being aware of the titles that need to be addressed to their teachers like “Miss” or “Sir”. Apparently, in Albania the term “respect” has lost the meaning and the use from students.
7. In UK pupils study fewer subjects than in many other countries. At the start of their secondary school , a British student might study a dozen subjects: English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics , History , Art , Computing , PE , Religious studies . But at the age of 14-15 , this number drops down to the core subjects like English, Maths and sciences. In our country all subjects in primary and secondary are considered as relevant and pupils have loads of homework to do all the time.
