Happy Left-Handers Day! ✋

Today is a great reminder that children learn, create and communicate in all sorts of different ways, and that celebrating individuality matters.

That’s why I’m delighted to offer my French 🇫🇷 and Spanish 🇪🇸 clubs for children. Learning a new language gives children another way to express themselves, discover different cultures and build confidence, while having lots of fun along the way!

After spending a couple of weeks at the beach, Bonbon the Bear is turning his attention to cooking! 🐻👨‍🍳

This week in my French club, we’re talking about different types of food and drinks, as well as learning how to stay safe and be very careful when cooking.

On the menu are:

🎃 Une soupe de citrouille (pumpkin soup)
🍝 Spaghettis bolognaises
🍒 Un smoothie aux cerises (cherry smoothie)
🎂 Un gâteau (cake)

Tonight’s bedtime reading was in Spanish! 🇪🇸📚

My little ones really enjoyed the tale of “Las habichuelas mágicas” (Jack and the Beanstalk), and the hen that lays golden eggs sparked a wonderfully curious discussion. 🐔✨

Learning another language from a young age opens up so many opportunities to discover new cultures — including through the joy of literature. 🌍📖

I use the award-winning La Jolie Ronde programmes to make language learning engaging, enjoyable and memorable for children.

Last night, my 2-year-old was having trouble falling asleep. When I asked her what song she’d like me to sing, she replied, “Pío, pío, pío”—or rather, “Los Pollitos Dicen.”

This much-loved Spanish-language nursery rhyme was written by Chilean educator Ismael Parraguez in 1907. It tells the story of baby chicks calling out for food and warmth, and it’s a song that generations of children across the Spanish-speaking world have grown up with.

In my Spanish 🇪🇸 and French 🇫🇷 language clubs for children (Hola Bonjour), we don’t just learn vocabulary and grammar - we also explore culture, traditional songs, stories, and games, all while having lots of fun.

This photo is of a coffee cup from Brussels, where I used to live. It’s such a melting pot of languages, and this coffee cup is just one small example of how that diversity is reflected in everyday life.

Learning languages can open so many doors, both personally and professionally. Starting when children are young means they’re often much less inhibited about pronunciation and other aspects of learning a new language than older children and adults.

I offer Spanish 🇪🇸 and French 🇫🇷 classes for children in small groups through my Hola Bonjour clubs at:

I was so impressed to hear the children in my Spanish group this week singing the popular La Jolie Ronde songs “Toc toc toc” (about introducing yourself) and ”¿Quién está en mi casa?” (a great way to practise animal vocabulary) perfectly. They even sang them a ca****la! 🎶🎤

It really shows how powerful songs can be when learning a new language at a young age, while also giving children a fun way to practise at home between lessons.

It made my day to hear from the parent of a toddler who recently attended one of my nursery taster sessions. While on holiday in La Rochelle, France, their little boy remembered the word “bonjour” and happily used it to greet people!

Moments like this remind me just how powerful it is to introduce children to languages from an early age. Through songs, games, stories and movement, children learn naturally while having fun.

Great to see John Lewis celebrating French 🇫🇷 with this fun slogan T-shirt in the children’s section. It’s a small reminder of something much bigger: introducing languages at a young age opens doors to new cultures, builds confidence and strengthens communication skills.

Learning a language early also helps children develop curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
