After today, Year 6 students can start partying! 🥳
(Mr 11Y4M was raring to go this morning, last early get up to school)
No more revision. No more practice papers.
No more “read the question properly.” 😆
To every Year 6 student, be proud of yourselves. You have worked extremely hard and gave it your best.
“Oh, the places you’ll go!” — Dr. Seuss
For now though… we can celebrate 🎈
..even though creative writing classes are still taking place 😂
We can finally have some fun and write topics that matter to you! 🥰

Something new in my tutoring journey… I’m now also teaching Maths!
It’s funny because it’s something I never imagined I would do. Finding creative ways to teach times tables has been really interesting—very different from how many of us learned when we were younger (mostly just memorising!).
The goal isn’t just memorising—it’s helping children actually understand numbers and feel confident with them. And when that moment of “oh, I get it!” happens, it’s the best part of teaching.
Many families from Hong Kong will be familiar with the Chinese method for learning times tables (九因歌), which works really well for some children. But every child learns differently, so if one approach doesn’t click, there are always other ways to try:
- group objects to see multiplication visually
- use numicon shapes to understand number patterns
- explore times tables through stories like the Times Table Fable books
- build confidence using the doubles method.
What method has worked for you?

Something magical was discovered in our storytelling class today… 👀
Inspired by The Bog Baby, the children became official “Bog Baby Explorers” and designed their own mysterious little creatures!
The children used amazing imagination and storytelling skills while learning about nature, habitats, and why we should care for our wonderful world — just like David Attenborough, who is celebrating his 100th birthday today.

A busy Thursday teaching all my HK students in the morning. ☕📚
One of the student really enjoys playing snap and doing phoneme spotter. While the other is forming sentences using his phonics and the other writing a story about a bird.
Another thing we love doing is GoNoodle! It is a bit noisy with all the action songs, but it gets the children moving and learning at the same time.

Today I tutored a little boy while he was on holiday in Japan. 🌏🗾
Me: How is your holiday so far?
Student: OK.
Me: What have you been up to?
Student: Not much.
Me: Can you tell me about a day you’ve had?
Student: I went to a restaurant to eat and I went snowboarding.
And just like that, “not much” turned into a conversation about food in Japan and his snowboarding adventures. 🏂
This is why I love tutoring... I get to step into their experiences, and guide them to transform those real-life moments into meaningful conversation, thoughtful reflection and confident writing.
To be able to tutor children anywhere in the world — even while they are on holiday — is incredibly special. Because true learning isn’t about location… it can happen anywhere!

We continued our museum theme this week after reading 'Yoga at the Museum' part of the Little Mouse Adventures by Theresa Anne Powder.
Today, we explored the National Gallery Imaginarium (online art gallery), discussing what might be happening in the artworks and how the people and animals might be feeling.
I can’t wait to see your drawings next week as we tell more stories using them.
Join us at 4pm on Friday!

It’s Storytelling Week in the UK! Our Year 2 and 3 students have been creating their own dragon characters!
Each child designed a character reference full of imagination and brilliant ideas. Alongside this, students practiced their SPaG skills in every lesson, with a focus this week on homophones and the -le spelling rule.
Just look at their amazing creations —every dragon is unique and thoughtfully brought to life. 🥰
