World Cup fever has hit Reception! They drew teams out of a hat and have been excitedly watching the highlights at school and recording the scores on their wall chart. There have also been some great drawings of footballers, including Ronaldo, Messi, Mbappe and Kane!

To support their understanding of parts of a plant and what they need to grow, Year 1 planted their own seeds. They carefully filled the pot with soil, sprinkled in the seeds and they are going to make sure that they get sunlight, air, water. We cannot wait to see!

Dear parents and carers

This week high temperatures are forecast, especially for Tuesday to Friday as the BBC is predicting temperatures above 30 degrees.

To help children stay cool, they can wear PE kit all week, this is a white t-shirt and black shorts, the alternative is their usual uniform. As Nursery and Reception do not have PE lessons and therefore don't have a PE kit, please attempt to wear the same if possible, or shorts and t-shirts in any colour may be worn. No football kits. Cotton is the coolest fabric to wear.

Please do not send children into school in strappy tops or mid bearing tops.

For safety reasons, children need to wear shoes or trainers, not sandals or Crocs.

It is essential that all children come to school with a named water bottle, which they will have an opportunity to refill throughout the day.

Please apply sun cream on your child before school and send them in with a named hat.

We will make adjustments to the school day and lunchtimes as needed. When temperatures are high, we limit outside play time and off inside alternatives.

We will be reviewing the Year 3/4 trip to the Royal Festival Hall on Wednesday, due to high temperatures and the need to travel by train and tube. Ensuring that the children are safe in the heat will be the priority, which means that we may decide not to go.

Onyx class will still be going swimming every day this week and it is hoped that the Year 6 Junior Citizenship Trip will still go ahead as it is only in Thamesmead.

Kind regards
Mrs Lodge

As part of Refugee Week, we took part in a poetry workshop with British-Nigerian writer Inua Ellams, exploring the meaning of “home.” It was a valuable opportunity to develop empathy and reflect on what home means to each of us. Inspired by these discussions, we wrote our own poems, titled A Home Is Like a Turtle Shell.

Last week over 90 children finished Lesnes Abbey Woods junior parkrun, and one of those 93 was from De Lucy. Will we see some more De Lucy children this Sunday? We hope so! Look out for Mrs Lodge who will be a marshall and give her a wave! 9am at the ruins...

Congratulations on all our young runners and walkers today. We had a record 93 finishers on the millionth parkrun event weekend to boot!

Congratulations on Kasper and Jack receiving their half marathon band. We will see you next week.

After lots work and trap building, Star Class caught Lanky Len!!!
He ran past in the morning, so they wrote messages to send to the ladybird from our story.
Soon after, Len was caught in their trap!!
He was very sorry and only wanted to borrow Star Bear. The children forgave him but suggested that he asked next time.
