Today at The Pavilion we enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year thanks to one of our Pavilion parents, Woody’s Mummy, who kindly shared their celebration with us.

The children listened to the story of Nian the Dragon, and how fireworks, the colour red and Chinese lanterns are all connected to the story and the ways people celebrate.

The children then created their own colourful Chinese lanterns to take home!

We had a wonderful end of term celebration with our Nativity performance and a special visit from Father Christmas.

Every Friday at The Pavilion the children take part in Gym.
Today we practised how to climb safely up and on top of the climbing frame. This helps the children increase their leg muscle strength and focus on their co-ordination.

We have had a wonderful start to the Autumn Term at the Pavilion, welcoming a number of new children and, of course, our returning families.

The children have been busy with a variety of activities from; Harvest Festival, planting bulbs, discovering the signs of autumn, Dragon Drama, making lavender bags, clay work and all the busy work that happens in between.

Today, we went on a nature walk down to the river, looking for signs of summer along the way. At the river, we fed the ducks, spotted a heron, waved at passing boats, and counted butterflies. The children all had a wonderful time!

This morning Pavilion parent, Mrs Saito talked to the children about the Japanese holiday, “Children’s Day” which takes place on May 5th. In Japan they use the day to celebrate children’s personalities and their happiness. As part of the morning the children each made a colourful streamer to take home.

Working with local artist and parent, Jesse Finlay the children got creative using Gelli Plate printing and paper stencils. A Gelli Plate is a gel-based printing surface that allows you to create beautiful, textured prints without a press. The children used a mixture of paper stencils and plants with acrylic paint to create beautiful nature inspired prints.

We have had a very busy start to the year at The Pavillon. The children have had fun enjoying exciting activities, including programming the Bee-Bots and designing Valentines hearts.

At The Pavilion the children learn to choose their own work and explore the prepared environment during the Montessori work cycle. The free-flow layout of the space supports this and truly allows each child to develop at their own pace. These opportunities for child-led learning and the wide selection of Montessori materials allow the children to develop curiosity, new skills, self-confidence and independence.

In Music at The Pavilion we use different pieces of classical music to develop storytelling through movement. This term we have been working with the piece, The Carnival of the Animals. The children have enjoyed pretending to be all the animals, with the snake a particular favourite!

Back and into our new term at The Pavilion and over this last week we have been looking at the changing seasons and Autumn.

The children have enjoyed spotting the differences within nature and bringing in their autumn finds from conkers to fallen leaves, twigs and acorns.
