As digital performance specialists, IJAD push the boundaries of choreography, science and technology to take dance to the next level.

We also run Open Online Theatre (OOT), a specialised platform for the performing arts, offering artists opportunities to incorporate the creative use of technology in their performance practice. This includes training in how to create hybrid work for live streamed and live audiences and monetise the process.

The residency invites early-to-mid-career artists working across dance, theatre, music, performance and technology to bring a creative question, idea or challenge into a space for experimentation and development.

You’ll have the chance to experiment, collaborate and develop a prototype with support from mentors, course leaders and industry experts.

We are excited to be at Ars Electronica Ars Electronica this week.

Join us on Fri 11 Sep 2026 16:30 to 18:30 when we explore the question “How can individual movement signatures be mapped, recognised and predicted?”

How can a dancing dialogue with the HAMLET Generative AI tools: Dance Style Analysis and Generation Enabler and the Music-to-Movement Enabler lead to new ways of inhabiting and discovering our bodies through movement, of relating to each other and to the tangibly physical and intangible, intuitively intelligible latent spaces into which we are immersed? The workshop invites participants to dance dialogues with(out) AI.

What happens when live performance meets emerging technology?

That’s the question at the heart of Open Online Theatre (OOT) and our upcoming OOT Residency.

Following our recent funding announcement, we wanted to introduce OOT, explain what the residency is all about, and give you a glimpse into the six-month programme.

What is Open Online Theatre (OOT)?

Open Online Theatre (OOT) is a monetised, interactive live streaming platform. OOT offers training, mentoring and performance opportunities to performing artists and creative technologists working at the intersections of live and digital performance.

What is the Open Online Theatre Arts/Tech Residency?

The Open Online Theatre Arts/Tech Residency is a six-month hybrid residency, which will run from November 2026 to April 2027. It is an opportunity for artists and creative technologists to develop their practice through experimentation with evolving technologies - such as VR, AI, volumetrics, motion capture, and multi-camera live streaming - as part of a practice-led programme, supported by mentorship from leading industry professionals.

More than that, the residency invites artists and technologists to explore how live bodies and digital systems compose shared realities, rather than simply moving between them.
