Celebrated each year on April 20th, this day was established by the United Nations to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity. It also honours the legendary figure 仓颉 (Cāngjié), who is believed to have created Chinese characters, marking the beginning of a rich and enduring written tradition.

Today, we celebrate not only the beauty of the Chinese language, but also the depth of its history, literature, and cultural influence. May this special day inspire you to explore, appreciate, and connect through Chinese.

The official theme for 2026 by the unaited nations is:
翰墨和鸣，华章同赋 — “Characters Endure, Civilization Shines”,
celebrating the lasting power of Chinese writing and the brilliance of its literary heritage.
