Feeling the competition?

Makeup artistry has been a vastly growing industry for years. When I began my career 15 years ago it was a niche line of work, now everyone and their dog wants to call themselves a makeup artist.

But did you also know that a huge amount of freelance makeup artists quit before the 5th year of their career? Because there is a LOT more to being a successful and lucrative makeup artist than being able to paint a pretty or creative face.

Do you understand how the industry works?

Do you understand your own style of makeup, what your niche is and how best to sell it to the clients who want to pay for it?

Do you know how to create your ā€œbrandā€ as an artist?

Do you understand the difference between an influencer and a working artist, and how to make sure your style sells outside of social media?

Do you know what additional skills can double your earnings as a makeup artist?

Do you know how to build a portfolio that SELLS? Producing work that you love that excites paying clients, not just other makeup artists?

Do you know how to craft the perfect website and email to get you the job you want, whether that’s assisting at fashion week or making up faces for the red carpet?

Do you know how to find clients, land in their email inbox and grab their attention? Or how to get an agent?

Do you know how to negotiate your highest ever rates? And how to manage your freelance finances?

All of these things, are the magic ingredients that ensure a long and successful career as a makeup artist, no matter how many up and coming artists are snapping at your heels!

And this is what I teach on The Business of Freelance Makeup Artistry. I don’t teach you how to do the perfect eyeliner flick or how to contour a nose, you can learn that on YouTube. I teach you the skills it takes to build the makeup career of your dreams.

New Insta content will be starting up again this week my loves, but in the meantime let me welcome all the lovely new followers who arrived while I was away with this, my most liked post of all time! It always fascinates me to see what content you guys love the most šŸ˜

One of the swords I die on repeatedly with my students is that assisting is the greatest education you can get as a makeup artist. And it’s an education money cannot buy!

I’m 15 years into an established career and will STILL take the odd assisting job if it’s with an artist I look up to and want to learn from.

If you’re wondering if it’s for you, take a look at these past assistant/mentor relationships… I can 100% see that the style of the artist they learned from has rubbed off on these past assistants.

If it’s good enough for them, right?!
