Last week, our students stepped out into London and Manchester to explore the creative and commercial spaces shaping the industries they aspire to join ✨

At VCAD, we believe meaningful learning happens when students engage directly with the industries and environments connected to their studies. These experiences help bring ideas to life and inspire the next stage of their creative journeys.

For their Fundamentals and Thinking Through Making units, students explored a range of creative environments across both cities. In London, they visited Tate to research artists and support their project work before heading to Southbank Skatepark to observe urban culture and gather primary research. Students also visited the vamuseumSouth Kensington and took part in street photography activities around Piccadilly Circus, exploring visual storytelling within a busy public space.

In Manchester, Foundation students immersed themselves in the city’s creative scene, visiting the Northern Quarter, afflecks_manchester and Empire Exchange for inspiration linked to contemporary culture and creative communities.

Graphic Design students visited the whitechapelgallery and vam_east, using exhibitions and collections to inform their creative development and broaden their understanding of contemporary visual practice.

Fashion Design students visited the V&A East Storehouse, gaining insight into fashion, design, and material culture through one of London’s most exciting creative resources.

Fashion Media & Marketing students participated in film screenings at theatreship, conducted research at the British Libraryand V&A East Storehouse, and explored leading retail destinations including theofficialselfridges and libertylondon to investigate branding, customer experience, visual merchandising, and marketing in action.

CertHE Business & Management for Creatives students explored key commercial and cultural locations including Covent Garden, Spitalfields, Canary Wharf, electricshuffle, the Manchester Northern Quarter, and New Islington. Finishing everything with a networking event.

Another fantastic week of exploration and real-world learning 💫

🌟 Student Stories: Dare to do

Meet Romer, a Fashion Media and Marketing student at VCAD and the founder of

Inspired by his African roots, Romer created North Bioko Club as more than just a clothing brand. Through hand-crafted garments, custom jewellery, and unique artistic techniques, he uses fashion as a way to celebrate individuality. ✨

What started with a promise to build a better future for his family has grown into a powerful creative journey. Driven by passion and commitment to authenticity, Romer is challenging the idea that fashion should look the same for everyone.

In this Student Stories feature, Romer shares the inspiration behind his brand, the importance of staying true to your vision, and how studying Fashion Media Marketing at VCAD has helped him develop his understanding of creative entrepreneurship.

At VCAD, we’re proud to support students who turn ambition into action, helping them build the skills and confidence.

As Romer says: “It’s not a race, it’s a marathon. Keep running. Don’t quit.” 🏃‍♀️

What does it really mean to be a VCAD student? ✨

Last week was a moment of discovery for our students as they stepped outside the classroom and explored real creativity across the streets of London during Trips Week.

Our Foundation students began their day at Tate Modern, where, guided by our Foundation Programme Lead Julie Ross, they were encouraged to observe, explore, and find inspiration in the world around them. Through paintings, sculptures, installations, textures, and materials, students learned how to look closer.

From the quiet gallery spaces of Tate Modern, the afternoon brought a completely different atmosphere at the vibrant Southbank Skatepark.
Led by Foundation Programme Lecturer Charles Yao, students explored the importance of primary research by speaking with skaters and members of the community, discovering the stories, passion, and dedication behind the paths they have chosen.

So, this is what studying at VCAD means: real experiences, inspiring lecturers who guide and support students along the way, and curious minds ready to explore, discover, and learn more.

Take your first step towards a creative career and start your journey with us.

👋 Meet Glynnis, Programme Lead for CertHE Business Management for Creatives.

Today, Glynnis is sharing one of the practical techniques our students use in class: The Napkin Pitch.

Great ideas don’t always happen in the office. They can strike while you’re grabbing a coffee, meeting someone for lunch, or waiting for a train.

The Napkin Pitch encourages students to get their ideas onto paper, turning creative thinking into something tangible. It’s a simple but effective way to develop strategic thinking and practise communicating ideas clearly-using one of the most accessible tools around: a napkin.

Whether you’re developing a new brand, launching a business or refining a creative concept, putting pen to paper can be the first step towards bringing your vision to life.

From first thoughts to fully formed strategies, VCAD helps you develop the skills you need to make an impact.
