Our Year 5 scientists have been busy becoming electrical engineers and scientific investigators! From testing different materials to discover which conductors would make football pitch floodlights shine the brightest, to exploring filtration, evaporation, magnetism and sieving to separate different mixtures, the children have been learning through exciting, hands-on experiments. By tackling real-life challenges, they have deepened their scientific understanding, developed their investigative skills and discovered just how much fun science can be!

This week, Year 6 travelled to the London Transport Museum for a day of exploration and learning. The children enjoyed looking around the museum's exhibits and discovering how transport in London has changed over time before taking part in a fascinating workshop about the Windrush generation.

The session helped pupils understand how people from the Caribbean came to Britain after the Second World War and played a vital role in filling important jobs, including many within London Transport. This linked closely to our class reading of Coming to England by Floella Benjamin and supported our learning during Black History Month. The children made thoughtful connections between the experiences of the Windrush generation and Floella Benjamin's own journey to Britain.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to our volunteer helpers, whose support made the day possible. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to bring their learning to life and create lasting memories.

To celebrate 100 years of Winnie the Pooh, the children in KS2 took part in a wonderful workshop, immersing themselves in the magical world of the Hundred Acre Wood. They discovered more about the author, explored the different characters and discussed what each character represents. Through drama and role play, the children explored the characters’ emotions and developed a deeper understanding of their feelings, bringing these much loved stories to life!

This week in Nursery, we celebrated Black History Month through the wonderful story Handa’s Surprise. The children enjoyed a range of hands-on activities, including African animal silhouette paintings, storytelling, animal pattern matching, traditional patterns, and creating fruits and animals with playdough. They also loved taking part in African dance and drumming workshops, which were a real highlight!

Throughout the week, we celebrated our similarities and differences, exploring how we are all unique and special. It has been a wonderful week of creativity, storytelling and cultural learning!

Our Year 6 children enjoyed a truly special visit from Lifetime Stories, where they were joined by their grandparents or significant adults for a meaningful experience filled with storytelling, reflection and shared memories.

Through engaging conversations, the children had the wonderful opportunity to explore stories from the past and see the world through their grandparents’ eyes, gaining a deeper understanding of their lives and experiences.

The session provided a fantastic opportunity to develop their oracy skills, as they practised listening attentively, asking thoughtful questions, expressing their ideas confidently and showing empathy and respect for the experiences of others.

It was a heartwarming experience that celebrated the power of storytelling, strengthened connections across generations and created precious memories for everyone involved.

As part of our Science topic, Year 4 have been learning about electricity. They carried out their first practical investigation, exploring how to create complete and incomplete circuits. The children experimented with bulbs, motors, wires and switches to discover how different components work together to make a circuit function.

Today, our Year 5 and 6 pupils came together for a meaningful assembly to mark the anniversary of 7th October. We lit a memorial candle in memory of the victims and the children joined together in saying Tehillim.

Our Year 6 pupils then took part in a special lesson exploring important dates and reflecting on the fact that behind every name and number is an individual person, with their own story, family and life.

The pupils also wrote messages of hope, sharing their thoughts and wishes for brighter and more peaceful days ahead. 🕯️💙

Today, each Key Stage enjoyed a special pre-Simchat Torah Oneg. In KS2, our Chatanim leined the end and beginning of the Torah, while our N’shei Chayil shared divrei Torah. There was plenty of joyful singing and dancing, before every child received a special pekalach bag to finish the celebrations on a sweet note! Chag Sameach to all our families!

Today, children from Nursery to Year 6 celebrated National Poetry Day, exploring this year’s theme of ‘Wonder’. The children took their poetry learning outdoors, where they observed the world around them, explored different objects, listened to the sounds of nature and even took time to feel the wind!

Throughout the day, children explored different ways of creating poetry and shared their ideas with one another. Working in teams, they used their imaginations to create their own poems inspired by the wonders they discovered in the world around them.
It was wonderful to see our children being creative, curious and inspired by nature through the power of poetry!
