You got the promotion.
You deserved it.
Now you´re the "boss", the "manager", "important".

But look, what´s that thing getting on your way?
Oh yes. It´s your ego.

The inflated ego that comes with our idea of "success":

- bigger salary,
- nicer office,
- easy laughs (yeah, people now listen to you more attentively and laugh more at your jokes)

For most people this often makes us feel as if we’ve found the eternal answer to being a leader. But the reality is, we haven’t.

An inflated ego makes us susceptible to:

- manipulation;
- it narrows our field of vision;
- it corrupts our behavior, often causing us to act against our values.

Breaking free of an overly-protective or inflated ego and avoiding the leadership bubble is an important and challenging job that requires:

-selflessness,
-reflection,
-and courage.

What´s does "Public Persona" mean, Jess? ( some people ask)

This is what the technical definition says:

Public face; who you pretend to be in public or when you’re around other people.

Example: He has a wild public persona, but at home he’s really calm and quiet.

That´s why when I work with my clients I tend to ask them:

Do you want to have a "Public Persona", an "alter ego" for public situations or do you want to be yourself in any given situation?

What do you feel about this?

Do you think your English vocabulary is too plain or basic?

Turns out this can be advantageous!

Plain language benefits both consumers and organizations.

The misconceived notion that long sentences and big words make you sound smarter (or more professional) results in great sacrifices to readability and credibility.

Plain language is a necessity. Being direct and plainspoken is not talking down. It is clear communication.

Want to get more clues?

1. Know your audience
2. Choose words familiar to your audience
3. Use short senteces and paragraphs

And as I always say for those worrying about communication, the only goal is to send a clear message and for the receiver to understand it.

Why do you want to work for us?
Why do you want this job?

Sometimes you feel like answering:
"Because I need to pay the bills".

Here are some little tips to answer this question:

1. Prepare: go on the company's website and do your research. Look for product launches, news, any projects they are developing. Go the extra mile and show how passionate you're about what they do.

2. Be enthusiastic : show how you much you'd enjoy and bring into this role.

3. Stay calm: no need to panic when replying. If you are prepare this will be piece of cake. Readiness is everything.
