10 reasons why learning to Scuba Dive on Holiday is the best way to learn👇

1. Learn in warm water, without the need for very thick wetsuits or having to do a Dry Suit course, meaning more expense. That cheap course is no longer cheap.

Learn to a Scuba Dive

5 important questions to ask BEFORE you sign up to do you Open Water Course:

1. How many people will be in the group learning? If there is more than 4 people to one Instructor, this will not be beneficial to you. If somebody says the group is bigger but you also have a Divemaster helping, this will not be beneficial to you. Divemasters can assist, but they are not Instructors, they can help under Direct Supervision from an Instructor. Meaning the Divemaster has to be watched closely by the Instructor. A Divemaster is just another person the Instructor has to keep an eye on taking the attention away from you. The best learning ratio from our experience is max 2 students to 1 Instructor.

2. When did my Instructor pass their course? Want the best training? Choose an Instructor who has done 100’s of courses. Instructors are still very much learning until they have done 1000’s of guided dives and taught 100’s of courses. Experience is everything in Scuba. You can be an Instructor at just 100 dives, many of which are their training dives.

3. What is the all inclusive cost? Many Dive Centres or training centres will offer a cheaper price but then add on lots of additional costs. Not advertised in the original price.

4. Is equipment included in the price? Rental of equipment should be included in the course, many don’t. YOU SHOULD NOT BE BUYING EQUIPMENT before a course unless you want to buy your own mask. What about if you don’t like it? You have wasted money. Places will often try to sell you equipment before the course, it’s one of the tricks they use to empty your wallet. All dive centres should be equipped with their own equipment.

5. Will I be taught to a high level? As a perspective Scuba Diver you will not know if your training will be good or not until you because an Instructor and know the course content but this will help you know!

The Open Water course is made up of essential skills you need to know in order to keep yourself safe and be able to dive. Scuba diving is dangerous and one small mistake can lead to a serious accident or even worse. This is why your training is very important.

You should be able to perform EACH of the skills slowly, without panic and to a mastery level. Meaning you should be confident and comfortable doing each skills. If your instructor moves on to the next without you feeling this way, will simply mean you are not learning to a high level. Maybe you will even skip skills just to gain your certification.

We have received 1000’s of new divers who are simply not confident, not able to do many skills and not be able to perform essential basics of Scuba Diving. This = poor training.

It’s ok to be nervous diving for the first time after the course, it’s very normal because you don’t have experience. We love to help nervous divers and often you just need to dive to gain confidence and get rid of the nerves in a controlled environment.

Here is some honest advise.

If you want to dive in the UK, learn in the UK.

If you want to Scuba Dive in warm water see lots of life, learn in those waters.

Where you learn to dive is a big decision, there’s zero point learning in cold water if you want to dive in warm water. It’s very different. The same goes, if you want to dive in cold water, don’t learn in warm water.

If somebody tells you “If you learn to dive in the UK, you can dive anywhere” they are lying to simply line their pocket. All oceans are different and learning in a lake is very different to the ocean. Want to dive in the ocean, learn in the ocean. Want to dive in a lake, learn in a lake.

My advise is totally impartial and the best advise for any student.

I’m always gutted to hear somebody has a bad experience Scuba Diving. Especially when it’s one of our regular customers.

I knew something was up when he messaged because it was not the normal tone so I asked if something had happened and as we have a good relationship, he told me.

I have received 100’s of people who have had bad experiences, been ousted from dive clubs especially after they won’t do any more courses and want to gain experience. I have been told many horror stories over the years.

For us it’s really good to know what happened for two reasons. Firstly to warn others and to give that individual extra time and care to make sure they fall back in love with the sport we all love.

For people to give up Scuba for the sake of bad people is a real shame and I have personally helped many fall back in love with Scuba and got people back in the water again.

Don’t worry we will look after this gentleman.

This industry needs a very big shake up. Some people should be ashamed. Another added to my long list of bad clubs/shops/people.

Being a proficient Scuba Diver comes after spending 100’s if not 1000’s of hours underwater. You will always learn more.

Experience is the most important factor in learning, not courses, we have found it first hand. Varied environments, varied conditions, learn to walk before you run.

Many believe because you have done your OW course you can now dive anywhere, technically you can BUT some oceans in this world can humble the most experienced of divers. Some oceans are very unforgiving as we have found first hand.

I made a huge mistake! Let’s learn from it. After 3000 dives in the Red Sea, I was super confident of my abilities in that environment. Teaching hundreds of courses and guiding 1000’s of divers. I knew it like the back of my hand. Then I started to travel to many countries to follow my passion.

I was humbled on several occasions, I come across down and up currents for the first time, I come across the “washing machine effect”. I come across strong currents that would take you 2km in 20mins. I found the ocean changed very fast, one minute it’s all nice and relaxed and then it changed in an instant.

I learnt to feel the water, feel he changes, predict what is ahead from what I’m feeling. Often being right. This learning path has helped me so much. EXPERIENCE.

Though our own learning path, learning from mistake and learning from some of the best Instructors around the world, we have devised a programme to help others.

The Red Sea one one of the best places to gain experience, WHY? There are little currents, the water is clear and warm, for new divers under 100 dives, it’s by far the best place to learn and not just do your Open Water course, but to gain experience.

Is there a huge amount of over confidence in Scuba Diving?

I’m our opinion yes. From diving with 1000’s of divers we have seen it first hand. BUT we have also helped 1000’s of divers gain confidence and get back in the water after bad experiences and nerves.

Why is there over confidence in Diving? Dive operators and Instructors are using the positives to keep your custom “your an amazing diver” “you completed your course with ease” to boost your confidence, if you think you are top level you will want to spend more money on the equipment they sell and the courses they provide.

This is also why they will encourage you NOT to dive with other people using the excuses “they are not safe” “ they don’t know what you they are doing” so you stay with them and don’t go else where.

When you do go else where, they may oust you, the reason is simple. The place you are going will know the place who has filled you with false confidence. They are going can see who trained you, they can see you may have done cert after cert. They will know you are soon to find out you have been filled with false confidence and lost your business. Because there are operators who will be honest with you. But those operators will also help you to correct the false confidence like us.

How do we know this? We have seen it 1000’s times and have a list of culprits who do it. If a divers come to us with false confidence we first look to see if it’s a similar pattern, we check where the initial training was done and by who. There is a pattern.

We then have a discussion, it’s the customers choice if they want to fix things or not. Many do and some don’t, many divers recognise they have it and a few don’t. But most people want to improve. It’s why we always recommend our divers go to other places to dive and gain experience but we give them the skills to do that.

If you come and do 5 days of diving with us, there is little we cannot fix. Problems with any skills, buoyancy, understanding, general nerves, accents and descents? We can fix everything. All we want is for divers to be safe and have fun.

Why won’t we take people on certain dives in Egypt and around the world unless we see them dive first?

The answer is quite simple, your safety, our safety and the safety of others. Request to go to challenging dive sites around the world are getting more and more, people just want to jump in the water with the big life for 1 days and that’s it. It’s a consequence of social media and chasing that thrilling dive.

However as a business owner, a diver and Instructor, I don’t want your accident or death on my conscience for the rest of my life, here is the reason why we watch everybody. Your long list of cert cards mean very little as we know how easy they are to get. Watching you set up your equipment and do your checks tell us everything about you and how you dive on the first day. We have huge experience from Egypt and all over the world where people think they are better divers that they are.

If you want to do challenging dive? No problem, we will help you get to the point in which you will be safe to do such. In fact we would love to help you improve through experience. A certificate does not mean you are ready for some dives.

The ocean is a dangerous place. Safety has always been number one for me. Yes I have lost another booking because of our policy, lost revenue and perhaps somebody bad mouthing the company BUT we have taken 1000’s of people diving, over 1000 certifications, spent 1000’s of hours under water all over the world and in different oceans.

We have not had one accident. I will do my upmost to keep it that way too! Our job is to send you home in the same condition you came, but with an added smile.

Yes we have rules, but for your own good and for the good of other people. Want a safe experience, we may just be for you.
