“I don’t think I’m patient enough.”
We were sitting together after class when one mum laughed and said she thought everyone else was more patient than her. Almost immediately, several other parents admitted they felt exactly the same. Patience is something people often assume comes naturally to parents or teachers. I promise you it doesn’t and it certainly wasn't the case for me!
There were plenty of mornings when my children were little that I was mentally calculating how late we were while watching one tiny shoe go on at the slowest pace imaginable! Montessori didn’t make me endlessly patient. It helped me choose when waiting mattered and reminded me that none of us needs to be a saint to support independence.
