📚 Here are 5 iconic books from around the world that have sold millions of copies and been widely translated🌍

1️⃣ Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes (1605-1615, Spain)
A timeless classic about an aging, idealistic knight-errant and his loyal squire on a quest to revive chivalry. This masterpiece is funny, thought-provoking, and full of life lessons about delusion, dreams, and reality. It’s one of the first novels ever written—and still one of the best!

2️⃣ The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1943, France)
A philosophical tale wrapped in the innocence of a children's story, this beautifully illustrated novella explores love, loss, and the importance of looking beyond appearances. Its universal wisdom resonates with readers of all ages.

3️⃣ The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (1988, Brazil)
This tale of self-discovery has inspired millions. It is an allegorical novel about a young shepherd's journey to discover his destiny, with themes of spiritual awakening and personal legend. Many people swear by it for finding their own purpose and seeking what truly matters in life.

4️⃣ Dream of the Red Chamber by Cao Xueqin (1791, China)

5️⃣ 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez (1967, Colombia)
A masterpiece of magical realism, this epic novel chronicles the Buendía family over generations, blending the real and the surreal in a way that only Márquez could. ✨Magical realism blends the ordinary and the extraordinary. It’s not fantasy, not surrealism, but a space in between - where ghosts might gossip in kitchens, time might loop back on itself, and the mystical walks hand-in-hand with the mundane.

Here are 5 iconic works to dive into: 👇

📘 1. One Hundred Years of Solitude – Gabriel García Márquez
The gold standard of magical realism. In the fictional town of Macondo, time bends, ghosts linger, and the fantastical is part of everyday life. Márquez uses magic to reflect the cyclical nature of history, memory, and the absurdity of politics in Latin America.

🐈‍⬛ 2. The Master and Margarita – Mikhail Bulgakov
A devilish cat, a talking pig, and Satan himself descend on Soviet Moscow. Satirical, surreal, and deeply political, the novel uses the magical as a form of subversion - exposing hypocrisy and authoritarianism through a wild, metaphysical lens.

📖 3. One Thousand and One Nights
This classic collection (aka Arabian Nights) is an early blueprint for magical realism. Embedded tales of genies, enchanted objects, and prophetic dreams unfold in a richly detailed, culturally grounded world - where magic feels both everyday and essential.

🌀 4. Fictions – Jorge Luis Borges
Borges' collection is a labyrinth of short stories that play with concepts of infinity, mirrors, and parallel universes. Each narrative challenges the nature of reality and fiction, inviting readers into a world where the boundaries between the real and the imaginary are perpetually shifting.

🥁 5. The Tin Drum – Günter Grass
Oskar, the boy who refuses to grow, narrates a grotesque, mythic version of 20th-century Germany. With his tin drum and glass-shattering scream, Oskar embodies the absurdity and trauma of history. Grass grounds the surreal in the political, a hallmark of magical realism.

✨ In magical realism, the impossible isn’t questioned - it’s accepted. These stories shift our perception, asking us to feel the world as layered, mysterious, and quietly enchanted.

🧠 Which of these have you read, or want to read next?
