If tonight looks like this with plans half done, routine off, mind everywhere — don’t panic.
You’re finding your way back into rhythm.
Tomorrow, focus less on lessons and more on regulation. Listen to the children. Let them share how their break was.
Calm comes first.
What are you prioritising in your class on your first day back?

Back to school doesn’t look the same for every child.
For some, the routine snaps back into place.
For others, the routine has disappeared and their nervous system feels it first.
After time away, expectations feel louder.
Transitions feel heavier and small things can suddenly feel very big.
This is the week where behaviour often spikes.
So we slow it down.We rebuild routines gently.
We narrate what’s coming next and we remember that regulation comes before learning.
💬 What’s the hardest part of the return for your children?

This is what most mornings look like in my classroom.
I work at the point where SEMH, communication and behaviour overlap, where children are most often misunderstood, and where support matters most.
In my classroom, not every child is in the same place at the same time.
Some are regulated.
Some are masking.
Some are already overwhelmed... and it’s only 9:15am. Relateable?
A lot of what we call “behaviour” is really communication. When we miss that, we respond too late and children feel it first.
I created Senducate to bring together practical resources and support that reflect the real behaviours we’re seeing in schools and specialist settings every day. And, I created Help Harry with characters that reflect the children we see every day, but so rarely see represented in the resources designed for them, especially those who feel before they can explain.
SEMH isn’t a trend. It’s the classroom reality.
This space is for the resources, tools, and thinking that help in the moments that matter.
Always in your corner,
Miss Thompson

Hey guys! It's been a while. I'm so sorry, I've been off the grid, I have been through a really tough bereavement. How is everyone doing at the moment?
I'm in the process of bringing you some fresh new content but wondered if you could spare 3 mins to complete a survey about your experiences as a parent or working with children with SEMH and/or challenging behaviour. Here's the link! Much love 💛
